Replace the O2 Sensor ?

I've been thinking, should I replace the front and rear O2 sensor ?

Cuz I've read some post that, these sensors can go bad but still not triggering a CEL until its completely dead, just like ignition coils.

and Im thinking I probably get can a few more mpg if I replace them, I know it will not offset the cost that easily (a new sensor, front, cost 240 something already), but ......... ahh I dont know.

240!? I will check around for ya, but are they not just 4 wire 02 sensors? If they are, you can get a replacement bosch unit for 60 bucks a pop.

I wonder will this work, it has 2 kinds of rear sensor, one (the above) saids Universal, and its 71 bux.

the other one O.E type, cost more than double, its even cheaper if I buy from Mazda.

so I wonder if the Universal one works with our car.

wow, major thread bump

BTW, the rear O2 sensor is nothing mroe than a cat monitor. Its only job is to throw a CEL if your cat goes bad, so there would be no reason to replace it unless you have that CEL with a known good cat.

Can you replace the front O2 sensor with a wideband sensor?
Will the stock ECU read a wideband?

Unlike many other vehicles, the stock O2 on our RX8 IS a wideband.

The front and rear O2 sensors are not the same and are not interchangable.
If you are in the USA phone and ask if the heater element has a resistance of between 2.16 and 2.9ohms for the front O2 sensor and the rear O2 sensor between 14.1 and 18.9ohms. These parameters are monitored in the RX8 and if not within spec will throw a CEL.

Whoa ! My old thread ! LOL !

some of the aftermarket Universal sensor gave people CEL.

you dont even need to change them that often, just get stock ones.

and its easy to replace it yourself. some PB blaster or WD will help.
