TPMS in Auto Transmission

Hey guys,

I tried to use the search forum, but I have run out of patience. That and I also dont have many braincells from working all day.

I have a 2005 Mazda Rx8 Touring with auto transmission and and wondering if this car has TPMS capability. I am thinking that maybe they are not standard with the auto's. Reason I ask is, I just sold my stockers, and put my winter tires back on and the light never came on. So that can mean either 2 things, the winter wheels/tires has em installed or that the car does not come with them since there not GT or not manual for that matter.

I jus got married and this came into my family through my wife. I never noticed this issue while we were going out...pls advise.

I wont be mad if I get flamed but I am shot to do any more research on this.

Thanks!

ken

When you turn on the car but don't start it, do you get symbol that looks like a tire with an exclamation point in it?
If not, then you don't have TPMS.

as much as it sucks to have an AT , it does come with TPMS. your winters must have TPMS units in them if you aren't getting the annoying beep and light that comes on when it can't find them.

You sure? Because I looked in the manual and it does say "some models". I realize that it is supposedly a touring and an 05...which means it should, but from what he explained, I think it might not. Maybe I should go re-read what he said.

Hmmmm......after re-read....maybe the Winters do have them. One way to tell, go let pressure out until it drops below 26lbs and find out! That will tell you for sure. If you don't have a pump at home, go to a station, leave car running, let air out and light should come on, then fill it back up to somewhere between 32 and 34lbs.

Yes, It does suck royally to have an AT RX8. With 150 ft lbs of Torque and 212 HP, I feel like it takes about 10 days to get it going. It is my wifes car, and it was a gift from our in laws so I am not going to complain. It's still an awesome car. I'm going go out and use boths way to check (at start up in my cluster, and to release some air), i was just assuming that NOT all 8's come with it, as not all
350z's came with it either. Thanks for your help though. I will repost with my conclusion. -ken

No TPMS. When I have the car turned onto ignition, all the lights pop up with the exception of TPMS !

Weird. That explains why I dont get a light or beeping sound with the winters on.

Thx for your help guys

Yeah, I guess you don't have it or is completely broken. Did you try letting some air out just for grins?

You don't have it. From what I remember about the 2004/2005 model year any model that has the sport suspension has the TPMS with it.
If you switched winter tires on they had TPMS sender in the rims you would still have to resync the new senders to the system.

I noticed you stated a 212 hp rating. how many gears do you have?

Man...Now I am even more confused...I'm gonna get to the bottom of this. But isn't it weird when i have the car in ignition, it does not show the tpms light on the cluster. That is why i was wondering if I have em or not? I'll check with the guy who I sold my stockers too, he has a mazdaspeed 3 and car had em. I'll check with him as well.

Yes, your right...I checked out the valve stems on my winter wheels/tires and don't have TPMS, it looks like either the car didn't come with this sensor or it has been deactivated. My guess is that the never came with it in 2005. Thanks for your help guys.

I would say someone deactivated it. I was under the impression all models came with it.

I have owned two 2005's and one was a Base AT and the new one is the Sport Package AT. They both have TPMS.
