Quick question. I just wanted to see if anyone has tried either the BR_EIX or B_EVX (the former B_EV) type spark plugs in their Renesis and if so, what were the results in terms of longevity and burn quality?

they're single electrode plugs that have really impressed me since i started using them in my Rx-7 (non-turbo FB) about 5 years ago now. i've used heat ranges from 7 to 9 (in various port-types), i have yet to foul one. for the record, they are not listed for the Rx-7, i think they may actually be motorcycle plugs, but i don't know for sure. all i do know is they work great. i'm going to be tuning up the 8 soon and i would like to use them if i can.

at any rate, the issue that i have is that i read of a physical fitment problem with Rx-7 plugs in the trailing slots of the Renesis. actually, i think you were the one that said it in another thread. honestly, i have no idea what the measurements you gave were - i think they were like, 19 mm vs. 22 mm or something. i'm guessing this means the plugs can extend into the chamber and damage the rotor apex and seal. i don't have any Renesis rotor housings to check fitment myself, so i figured the next best thing was to ask if anyone has used them. they do cost less, but the bottomline is i believe in them. however, i'm not willing to kill my motor just to use them.

 

oh ... and the -EIX-types are Iridium, while the -EVX-types are copper, i think???

 

Yeah, you can't use RX-7 trailing plugs in the trailing plug position on the Renesis.
The plug depth is a few mm less and the electrode end will bottom out before the plug seat hits the washer and, since the plug hole is tiny, will distort the face of the housing once it gets hot.
