I've watched the price drop from $20k -> $16.9 over the last few months. Is this a good price at $16.9 + the usual 7.75% CA sales tax?

How do verify that the recall was performed? According to http://www.motortrend.com/cars/2005/mazda/rx_8/recalls/, it looks like the 05 had a similar problem as the 04.
if the vin falls in this range it was part of the recall.
2005 RX-8 VIN range (JM1 FE17** 50 140892 - 161178) -- pulled from the TSB here.
the site has a link for a 'free carfax report' - if it works and actually gives you the carfax, the recall info will be listed as open if it was not done. (i think it gets listed somehow even if it has been done, but I'm not 100% sure)
Looks like a great deal tho.

So I just got a copy of the carfax and there are no open recalls. Unfortunately it doesn't say exactly when the recall was performed. Interesting note: the car was from NY and is now for sale in CA. Is this something I should be worried about?
A nonresident vehicle was last registered outside the state of California. Anyone who brings a vehicle into California, or purchases a nonresident vehicle while in California, should be aware of the registration requirements.
NOTE: California law prohibits importing and/or registering a new vehicle with less than 7,500 miles at the time of purchase unless it meets or is exempt from California Emission standards. If you acquire a 49-State vehicle (manufactured for all states except California) from another state or country, you may not be able to register your vehicle in this state.
Straight from the DMV. Looks like they get around it because there are > 7500 mikes on the clock.
