factory LCD strip stopped working

my LCD stip seemed to have a short since i got my rx8 in october, used 2004.

but on friday it wouldnt come on at all and hasnt since thursday, generally it wouldnt come up when i started the car up but it would come on after a few minutes or once i started driving.

I figure there must be a short that either the heat go to as i was at the beach when it decided to stop working or it jarred itself out of place. Either way is this something that i could fix or something im gonna have to get the shop to look at?

The connector could just be loose. There are threads here that have step by step with pics to show how to remove the radio.

You may still be under warranty.

Will be good if the milage on the warrenty has not been exceeded. Also, didnt the 2004's have extended warrenty because of the horsepower issue?

I had to take in my LED strip for service also. Mines went all berserk one day and it blinkered completely randomly, like watching static on tv. It was covered under the warrenty and they simple replaced it.

I had mine replaced a couple weeks ago under warranty. I now have to bring it in again, I think it is the wiring that is bad (loose connection) not the LED panel because it flips out when I go over bumps. The dealer made it sound like it is a very common issue. The service writter knew exactly how long it would take to get the part and he said he had ordered quite a few.

for one reason or another the lcd is very sensitive as to whether the connectors are fully connected. i sometimes have issues with mine due to an ipod install. the whole thing will be lit up, making it impossible to see. the only solution i could find was to take evertyhing apart and double chack ALL the connectors.

Ooooh ****. I hope this doesn't become a prominent issue because that would be bad news for people like me who tampered with the nav wiring so they watch DVDs (and so on) on the nav screen. That part of our warranties are gone.

No.

But we did get an extension due to the engine replacement issues... but that's powertrain only.

I have had mine fixed 4 months ago, and it is doing it again on rough roads. Definite loose wires and it is obvious that it is a design problem that will reoccur and get worse with time. A good way to check if it is the connection is to gently press in on the face plate near the out part. (I.e. above the ac ***** if the ac area of the screen is out.) It will usually come back on.

They do cover these repairs under warranty. However, if you try to remove the faceplate yourself, the shop will say it voids your warranty. (The used car dealer I bought it from or the previous owner apparently tried to fix it him or herself.) I took it to another Mazda shop in a nearby state, told them the 1st shop opened it and didn't fix it correctly and the 2nd shop fixed it, no problem, and no hassle. Needless to say, I will spend the extra gas money to go to shop #2 for oil chances, services, etc.
