I'm not sure if someone has already done this but it looks like they are looking for a test 8 to use for their widebody kit

how long do places generally have your car for?

 

Based on a phone call to them, 3 months or more. I don't have a lot of specifics at all, but that much I learned. That's a long time.

 

I called on this last november and they said they had some cars they were looking at, preferably one that has custom suspension and wheels already, and they need to keep the car for about 3 months and use the original body work to make the wide body kit, so you probably won't be getting the stock parts back seperate, it'll probably be the base of the kit.

Yeah, my call indicated the car could be theirs for 3 - 6 months, that you'd likely not get the stock bumpers back, and that the car would not be molded or painted. They already have 4 cars in line who are apparently willing to do all that. They also want you to have aftermarket rims on the car so it will "show" better.

so it will show better with aftermarket wheels, but not painted and molded? sounds like craziness to me. even if you already had aftermarket wheels they still wouldn't look right once they put a widebody kit on it. the fender gap would look ridiculous.

 

i'm in Cali, so I'm out. but i'm hoping this kit doesn't have the gaping front grill like the one they have out now...

 

^ agreed. I think that would ruin the image of the 8.

 

So what, in your opinion WOULD look good (or not ridiculous) once a widebody kit was installed?

btw, I don't think they were insinuating that it would show well if it weren't molded/painted....they were just saying THEY weren't going to expend the resources to do those things for the owner of the loaner vehicle.

Does anyone have a link to the part of the kits they are doing now that you don't like the look of?

Im cornfused, why would they not want to paint it and get some good pics? Sounds like a rediculous deal if you ask me.

 

yea it does sound rediculous. but maybe they want the owner to make the choice of painting it whatever color they want. heck 1/2 the car needs to be painted after it's done, widebody could use a custom paintjob. but who knows...

 

the FLRX8club tried to deal with these guys in the past (september - 06)ish.

they were suppose to show at a meet and discuss what they wanted to do. anyway, the guy never responded (after he agreed to show) and never came. never responded to posts on the thread he started.

anyway, they may have alot of stuff going on, but if you dont take care of new customers then you wont have new customers.

the wheels for a normal car and a widebody would have to be completelt different. they would either have to be wider or have a much more crazy offset to have a flush look. i don't see why they can't paint it back once they're done, but if thats what people are gonna agree to, then be my guest.

 

i'm looking at their page and the 350z widebody looks an awful lot like the veilside kit for that car and the supra looks alot like the TRD widebody kit with a modified grill.

 

Ah, I get it. Thanks for the explanation. I have no experience with aftermarket wheels/tires except for the snow tires and 17" wheels I bought. (Which I now need to sell, since I'm moving to the South).

Yeah, they told me they would want the car to have aftermarket wheels (and the inference was that they wanted those on the car when they started the project, though I may have misunderstood them) so that the car would "show" better. And yes, my understanding was that it would then be incumbant upon the owner, once he got his 8 back from them half a year later, to finish and paint his car.

As has been said, if someone wants to agree to all of that just to get the kit for free, more power to them. It won't be me.

 

gotta have new rims after a widebody is put on...

 

I'm sure that part of things could be negotiated away, if you assured them you'll get them put on after the kit is in place (so you can see what is going to look best with the kit once it's done). That's not the deal-breaker to me. It's the 6 months without your car, and then having to do the molding/painting of their work!
