How long between production and delivery for Canada?

OK, since my last post turned up nothing, it look like have to go through the agonising wait for my order to arrive.

I was wondering what experiences people have had about the wait from time of production to time of delivery?

I have been told about 2 months. Is this a good number or not?

Let me know what has happened to you.

How come I keep hearing stories about people buying cars this year? I'm in Richmond Hill, and Avante Mazda told me that all the locations are sold out. Long story short, I took this word for it, and put down my $1000 deposit for 2005 model expected in March. I'm anxious, but I'm thinking, at least I'll have the entire summer to enjoy the car next year :p

So I'm answering your question with another question Taffy; are people still getting 2004's?

Then again, Mazda Canada has also said that they will only get 700 2004 RX-8s starting in June (which was actually July), then next spring will only get 700 2005 RX-8s. The story isn't constant.

The other thing that many people aren't aware of is that you can't actually order a specific car from Mazda. The dealer will take your deposit, but he can't send in your preferred vehicle as an order which will be scheduled for build sometime in the near future! Yes, Mazda USA can do that, but in Canada the dealers are allocated cars pretty much at random - you are only requesting a car from their future allocation, and hoping that the dealer will be allocated a car that matches your desired vehicle. For example, a dealer might know that he will be allocated 3 RX-8s for November delivery (back in May, the dealers didn't even know how many or when they might be getting RX-8s - this might have changed, but I wouldn't be certain!), but he has NO say in what colour or options those 3 RX-8s are equipped with.

IF Mazda Canada had port stock of cars, then a dealer could search that stock to find a car that matches your request. That happens with Proteges and Mazda6s and Tributes, but not with RX-8s yet because of the extremely limited supply. Also, a dealer can trade with another dealer to get a car you want. Say you want a Titanium Gray GT with Nav, but it turns out that your dealer isn't going to get one of those as part of his 3 car allocation in November. If another dealer is getting a TiGray GT Nav that doesn't have a deposit on it yet, then the dealers can swap an RX-8 or other cars to get the car you want.

But "order" a car to be built to your specs at the factory like most other auto manufacturers will do? It doesn't happen with Mazda Canada.

Regards,
Gordon

Apparently there will be 3000 cars in 2004/2005 starting in Jan.

But yes you can buy a 2004 NOW if you want, there are still at least a dozen on the lots.

Before I "ordered" my Red GT, I had rung around dealers and was able to get Yellow, Titanium, Black and Silver for delivery ranging from immediately to November.

Funnily enough, Avante Mazda also told me that they couldn't get any cars until March 2005. I told them about the other cars I had been offerred. The next week, they called me and offerred a silver one for immediate delivery due to a cancellation.

There is definitely no need to wait until March if you have the time to ring around dealers in the GTA.

Hope this helps.
