Unhappy Review of midpipe+catback(header back system)

04 vr rx8 GT

i have had the mazdaspeed dual canister cat-back for sometime now and i love it. i just got the rx8store.net midpipe w/o resonator. . . . .
the stock-cat and mazdaspeed mufflers sounded so mean and rich, and me being greedy, decided to get the midpipe. . . . .
i am seriously standing in a pool up to my eyebrows in grade A white RICE

yea the midpipe dose free up a LITTLE power, and at wot it sounds like a nascar flying down the street, but just driving around normally the sound is very VERY raspy.

just wondering if anyone has a midpipe with another type of catback, and you like the sound/performance?

o yea, how was my first thread???

b&b midpipe + borla, sounded like crap. I immediately removed theborla and went back to the stock exhaust. Then it was okay. Once I had the turbo installed, I could go back to catless midpipe + borla because the turbo quiets it down. No more rasp.

Borla catback w/ RP supercat and loving it more and more...surprised you didn't like your setup mysql101...it is a bit loud and raspy...but still sounds like a rotary...love the popping at anything above 3.5K rpm

Got the RX8Store high-flow cat and catback. It did sound very, very raspy for a couple of weeks. After that it quieted down some and all the raspiness went away. Now it's only raspy in the mornings when its still cold. Once the exhaust warms up it goes away.

I get a metallic rattle sound w/ the rxstore midpipe and factory exhaust...I've just told myself that I need to get an aftermarket catback...but it definately sounds rice...im not lovin that sound...however the additional power and flamethrower effect is more than worth it...I just wish I could get rid of that rattle...

Yea the flames are very cool, the sound is not what i like but i think im going to stick with this setup for now. its so funny whenever i pass some one, everyone in a 300 foot area sh*ts there pants, while car alarms are going off on either side of the street.

I have that with corksport. It is too loud and exactly how you describe. I replced it with Hymee and it is perfect now. That midpipe need to be broken in and sound nice when it warm up

About the only exhaust I have ever head with a midpipe that would not involve me getting pulled over by a cop was the Racing Beat unit. Otherwise you may be better off getting a hi-flow cat unit. The cat acts as a resonator unit. If you want even less sound you can get some hi-flow cats with an(other) resonator put on it.

Fanman is absolutely correct. If you want to use midpipe, make sure it has a resonator on it. Also choose an exhaust that is not too loud. I know RB exhaust and Hymee aren't loud exhaust and they sound just about perfect with midpipe. I have hymee on mine with RX8store midpipe/resonator. It is reasonable loud when you want it to yet it is pretty quiet if you drive normally. Sound is awesome too, especially under over pass/tunnels. No resonance inside the car. It will become a bit quieter once it broken in and carboned up. I only use volume 8-10 on my radio when I drive with windows up with the Hymee. With corksport+ mippipe, I turned volume to 13-15 range and forget about radio if you drive over 4000 rpm. Same would apply to mazdaspeed exhaust since it looks a lot like corksport exhaust with those litte cans.

I have not have any problem drive by cops whether they are state troopers or local cops with the new set up as long as I drive normal just like anyone else around me. I got pulled over for loud exhaust 3 times already and the cops, 2 of 3 cops recognize my car since I am the only one with a red RX 8 in town with tinted windows. They are local cops. These days I have to drive with my window down when I see cops because I am afraid that I am going to get pull over again. What I don't understand is there were times that other cars have as dark tint as mine but yet I am the one that got pull over....Is it because of the red color of my car that attack cops?

So the rule is if you want to run a midpipe on your car and don't want to get pull over, get an exhuast that is not too loud and it will sound just right when pair up with midpipe/resonator. Also if you ever get pulled over, remember to shut the engine off as soon as you can!! It stinks and you don't want cop to get down on his knee to look under your car.

Why not get the one with a resonator or get a resonator put on this one?
