'04 4AT linkage locking up after quick shift
19K miles; happened twice in three months. Once I shifted from drive to reverse and then back to drive again. Maybe a little too fast (I'm a life-long straight shifter). AT light comes on and is stuck in neutral. Key stuck in ignition (and accessory is on) because gear is stuck in neutral. Took it to the dealer -- MedCenter in Birmingham -- said they couldn't figure out what the problem was and, naturally, couldn't "make it do it again."
Happened again tonight. Shifted from drive to reverse to drive -- and really not that fast -- and locked up. Towed again to dealer. Nice note affixed to steering wheel and awaiting word in the morning. I'm sure, like last time, they'll reset whatever computer's screwing up and tell me they don't know what's up but not to worry.
Is this a problem with the 4AT or 6ATs anywhere? Please don't tell me the shifter is that sensitive. Is there a quick fix if it happens on the road again? I don't like being at the mercy of this ...
BTW, searched the threads and saw nothing else on it.
Thanks!

Bummed, but bring on OU!
Never heard of it before, my guess is that you are confusing the computer. My only suggestion is slow down the transition. That's hard on the drivetrain anyway.

Car was used when I bought it; 14K miles on it.
I'm good about taking it easy on the transitions, but I'm telling you, it can't be that sensitive. The mechanic at the dealer says he's baffled by it and will give it a good run-through tomorrow.
We'll see. They know I'm ticked off because it's stranded me twice.
