I'm considering coming to this event. It sounds like fun, and its not too far away from me (dallas). However, i have never participated in any autocross events. i feel that i am a confident driver and would like to put it to the test. is there anything i need to know or to do before i commit myself to this??
Thanks
Scott
Thanks

You need to make sure your car is in good running shape, bring some water to drink, sunscreen, some extra engine oil, and a Snell approved helmet if you have one. PM me if you want some more details, I will be in my 05 RX-8 or 00 S2000 this season.
Here is the local BMWCCA page on autocross.
http://www.lscbmwcca.org/autocross.html
The main clubs that run in the area are SCCA, ER, BMW, S2K and PCA so take your pick.

Running in HS class if I'm not mistaken.
Run with Kumhos or Hoosiers at ER events for a chance to win free tires!
"Discount Tire will be sponsoring ER events this year. For each event that you use Kumho or Hoosier tires you can enter the drawing for a set of tires. All you have to do to qualify is put either a Kumho or Hoosier sticker on both sides of the car along with a matching Discount Tire sticker and you are set to win. Stickers available at Tech inspection."

It's a full day with 3 hours of classroom instruction, followed by a lunch break and several hours of in-car instruction from national-caliber drivers. Cost is $50 which is the cheapest driving school you will EVER find and provides inside tips from people who've done it for over 20 years. This also includes a handout instruction booklet and the entry fee for the first autocross of the year the following day- Sun, Mar 18, at the same location.
I've attended this school last year and probably will again this year as a refresher and warmup for the first SCCA event. All previous years, SCCA has provided coffee, orange juice and donuts as a morning welcome.
The school is limited to the first 60 registered entries, so register soon. Here's a link for registation information and more details:
http://autocross.com/tr/2007soloschool.htm
In the entry form, class and car # are not important. They are not used. The in-car instruction groups are split up by AWD, FWD or RWD that you indicate on your registration.
Whether you are new to autocross, have been doing it for years or just want to learn more about how to handle your car at increased speed in corners, this school is a great opportunity. Remember to register soon, because it will fill up.

S2k events are great places to learn more about autocrossing. S2k events offer a low key, relaxed atmosphere with a lot of seat time per event (8 timed runs plus fun runs, typically), available instructors, etc.
I will be at the first event, as will a couple of other local RX-8 pilots who don't frequent this board. I've been instructing with the S2k club for a few years now, and I'd be happy to ride along with you and give you some pointers. You're also welcome to ride shotgun with me for a couple of runs to help get a feel for the course and what the car is capable of. I'll be the guy in the Nordic Green RX-8, #75.
You'll need to create an account at DLB Racing and register online for the event. Registration opens tomorrow, and these events typically fill up pretty fast, with a 50-car entry limit. S2k puts on some of the best events in DFW, and you'll find plenty of fellow RX-8 pilots to hang out with.

Dunno where you're located in the metromess, but I'm in the Plano area. If you're somewhere near there and want someone you can follow out to Mineral Wells, drop me a PM and we can meet up somewhere.

I would be glad to give you the few pointers that I know and help get you through tech and registration etc. I will be in the Winning Blue car # 332. Oh yeah don't forget to bring some blue painters tape or get some magnets made for a number to put on the side of the car.PM me if you need to follow me out there as well, I live in Carrollton. EDIT: Just saw Iain offered as well, just let one of us know.
hey guys, thanks for all your help. i probably will want to meet up early that morning to follow one of you out there. i live near the downtown area, but could meet somewhere in the middle/on the way to get out there. i really apprecieate all the help with teaching me the ropes on everything. i am really excited about all of this so i can feel what my car was really made for. we'll get more details together as we get closer to the date.

By the way do you have any modifications done to your car?
that sound great. what time it the school on sunday start? do i need to register or just show up? it would be nice to be able to get my feet wet before i jump into the ocean next weekend.
I have a few mods to the car, not much thought: intake, high flow cat, front strut bar redline fluids.

Hey Scott,
Good to meet you yesterday! Sorry I didn't have more time to talk - they don't allow much time for instructor fun runs, and after almost four months of off season I wanted to get a few runs in with the car since making some changes.
Hopefully the weather next weekend will be as nice as it was yesterday!

Iain,
great to meet you as well. i can understand your eagerness to get back onto the track, as i am losing sleep in anticipation for this weekends event. excited, nervous, and more than anything, i just want to drive.
from what i can see, the weather is going to be great all week, and for the weekend i will remember to bring my sunblock.
