sadly i have a newb question

I'm looking at a set of 18x8.5 wheels (maybe 18x9.5 i dunno)...how do i pick an offset? whats the widest tire i can put on a. the rim b. the car without any rubbing?
im thinking 255 40s 18s? or should i get 275s? or is that too wide for the front to fit and bad for handling as well?

Check out Rotorocks posts. I think he has 275's on his rear rims. He can probably enlighten you.

call conner at tirerack for advice.

Offset is how far away from the geometrical center of the rim your hub is. Modern cars have positive offsets, which pushes the hub toward the outer portion of the rim compared to where it would be in the center, i.e., zero offset.

Stock wheel offset is 50 afaik. Since you are going to a 1/2 inch, or about 12.5 mm wider wheel, I would _GUESS_ that you want a wheel with a slightly lower offset, for example, a 40 to 45 offset. If you use a wider wheel at the same offset you will risk having the inside tire sidewall rub on your suspension bits, and you dont want that. If the wheel is a 9.5 width you need a smaller offset.

You sound like you don't know what you're doing, so STOP. Get the exact specs on the wheel, then call Conner and ask for his help. He might even be able to offer you something you like better that fits your car.

I got the Enkei RPF1's in one of the group buys here. They're 18 X 9.5 with a +50 offset. Although I got 255's on all fours, some people got 275's without any rubbing issues.
