You would have to ask Scott......the OEM one is integrated in the stock Fuel Pump assembly.

You have the Mazport pump mod don't you?

 

Yah... maybe it got changed when the pump was changed out. In which case, I don't need to change it... heh.

 

so is it possible to change the fuel filter on a stock system without dropping the gas tank?

 

The pump unit comes out of the access hatch under the drivers side rear seat. AFAIK that is the only filter in the system??

 

so you have to get the rear seat out?

 

Easy....pull up on the front of the seat...and lift it out

 

You need to give it a decent tug, lifting under the leading edge of the seat base.

Four screws and your are at the top of the pump access port.

Taking out the pump without the proper tool is a bitch. Try and borrow one from a dealer or someone

 

ok so the pump has the filter in it? any idea how long the oem filter is good for?

The funny thign about this issue is I have one of those .PDF versions of the shop manual and I couldn't find any mention of how to change the fuel filter. I will hit 100,000 next summer so this is something I would also like to know more about.

 

Car company's for years have been locating the fuel filter in the fuel tanks of vehicles as part of the fuel pump assembly or fuel pump module. They started doing to reduce evaporative emissions from the vehicle. The theory being that reducing threaded or o-ring connections on the outside of the fuel tank provides fewer leak paths for fuel vapors to leak to the atmosphere, reducing evaporative emissions.

Fuel filters are typically not serviced by themselves alone. The filters are designed with enough capacity to last the life of the fuel pump. That way when the fuel pump is ready to be replaced the filter is replaced at the same time. Replacing the fuel filter is not a $15 to $20 replacement part as is once was. If you were to feel the need to replace the filter the whole fuel pump module assembly would have to be replaced at the same time. This is the only way it would be available from the dealership. This can take a hard hit on the wallet since service fuel pump module assemblys can run from $250 to $400, sometimes even higher.

The first question I would ask is... What makes you think you need to replace the fuel filter? If you really needed to replace it I think you would be spending some dough.

 

would the premix concentration most of us use for the street (200-250/1) cause any problems with the filter? I dont think so but always like to consult with people more knowledgeable than I.

200-250:1? When using 4 oz per tank, that's more like 500:1. Are you using 8 oz per tank?
