High Mileage Tires?!?

So I got a $3 tread depth gauge from Amazon.com (they have great deals on tools surprizingly, but I digress...) I wanted to check the bad news on how much tread I have left on my tires after this season. On the current tires, I did two track weekends (4 track days, maybe 8 hours total) and around 4 autocrosses, plus maybe 10,000 city/highway miles. (Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3, 225/40-18)

The Goodyears started with 11/32 inch of tread. Their UTQG rating is 280 AA A. Checking them yesterday, the results were:

- Average current tread depth is still 8/32 inch. (!) It surprised me I have that much left after this year's abuse.

- Consistent depth across tread. Unlike what I expected to find, tread depth was even across the front tires.

- One unexpected exception on the tread depths. The rear tires were 8/32 on the inside and the middle, but 7/32 on the outside. The only reason I can imagine was that powering out of corners put additional friction on the outside of the rears, such that they wore down slightly more.
