Good point. But the same dealership I was talking too mentioned this same point. Their stance was that it would not be covered under the lemon law as there's a document proper procedure for running the engine properly without flooding it. In addition, this is an issue that could affect all "8"'s not just defective ones. Obviously, this point of view benefits Mazda.

I have the same issue with the low gas mileage since there is no fix for the problem the dealer tells me it cannot be covered under lemon law no matter how many times I bring in the car.

RX8Z,

My only current issue is idle. And they suggested that the air sensor in the intake could be faulty. I need to get it in for them to look at it, but I haven't had time. Plus they are a small shop and I'm sure they won't have the part if that's the issue. So that means two trips. PLUS I have a pending appt with another dealer to replace my heating/air conditioning controls as both my defrost buttons broke.

For me, my delaership expereince have been pleasant. including them let me watch as they hooked up the VAG tool and found all the faults they beleive happend prior to me taking the vehicle. I just want to minimize the number of times a dealer touches it!

You know, I spoke to a service technician here at Mazda, he is our "expert" in Rotary Engines, and in fact, he came from Japan working on Rx7's..

anways, we had a discussion about many of the problems, he laughed because he was like truth is, alot of the Mazda mechanics are not properly trained or experienced enough with Rotary engines, especially in the central states, and southern areas.

He basically stated, and confirmed to me that here at our dealerships, no flooding at all.. and in fact he helps some of us employees boost our Rx8's +15hp by messing around with the ECU free of charge..

We didnt get to talk long, but I'll ask him what he thinks the best solution/remedy is for the flooding issue that many are having..

I apologize to RX8Z if I'm the one that "struck a nerve" in my comments that made him post that all mechanics in central states and southern areas are incompetent. That’s a pretty brash statement and must have been a reaction to posts here.

In any case, my apologies to Stu for contributing in taking his thread way off topic.

I dont think it was a comment to insult the technicians out there, or to say they are incompetent.

This guy is not that type of guy, please dont take his words out of context. What he is saying is that Mazda poorly updated and trained the technicians about their own cars..

Listen, lets be honest here.. mechanics are based on individual experience. Just because you work at a Dealers service, doenst mean you knwo your **** and if you think that, god help you

I am so sure that many of you's have went to your dealers mechanics ,and I can almost guarantee that youve experienced situations where you knew more about your own car than the mechanic did....

This is the reality you have to accept, which is why theres a word called "experts"...

Anywyas, please dont take any offense from my guy.. as i said, Mazda is really at fault for keeping their own techs out of the loop..

Reading through this forum and checking out where people live, it seems that these flooding problems are seen by owners all over the world.

My 8 has been in 3 times to sort out various problems and still the flooding issue remains. My dealer reckons he has gone back to Mazda and complained on my behalf about it.

Assuming that you lot have complained too and a load of others have whinged, at what point are Mazda forced to do something? They use fob off tactics but it can only work for so long.

Maybe Z would know but is there a point where they admit that its a design fault and sort it out permanently? Is it going to take all the motoring press to criticize it before they put their hands up and put the required effort in to fix it. Is there something else that we can do so that Mazda could see the extent of the problem?

Any ideas Z? Or anyone else?

There is.

If you have had your car flood in a way that has required a tow, file a complaint with NHTSA.

This may result in a recall which will force Mazda to address the issue one way or another.

According to Swedish media, the buy back programme was involving 3551 cars and only 31 used the option. Anyone else got any numbers?
