Cold air intake

Can anyone recommend a good cold air intake and maybe a place to get one?

To be honest: stock and it should already be in your car. The AEM/Mazdaspeed and RacingBeat intakes are the only ones that produce any kind of gain (VERY SMALL, like 1hp), but for the $200-300 price it's hard to justify.

Mazda didn't leave much on the table with this one.

Stick with the stock setup and drop a K&N filter into it.

The worst part about a K&N (AEM, same company) filter is that it doesn't filter well. And drop in filters don't do jack **** for performance, just get a good WIX filter in the stock intake and move on to other things, like good tires and suspension.

yes but a lot of people will say stay away from k&n. iirc the speed source race team used regular wix filters

Another vote for OEM with a Wix or OEM filter. The stock airbox IS a cold air intake when the car is moving. I have logged my intake temps vs. ambient temps extensively, and they are at most 2F apart when the car is in motion. And, it is plenty capable of delivering the required amount of air to a NA engine with the stock filter. There is quite literally nothing to do in terms of intake, unless you just want to make some noise.

The ONLY options in the aftermarket for the RX-8 are AEM and Racing Beat. All others will rob performance and/or cause rough idle.

Here is a good primer on modding the 8 for power gains:

if you track often, it may be worth it to go for the Mazdaspeed or AEM CAI - and for that clean look, but otherwise, you are good with stock. that is All.
