Yea you can do that. Its on the passanger side. So you will have to jack up the passanger side to get to it. I would use a jack stand. Dont use the jack in your trunk. It slids down with the weight of the car. Its not ment to do major work. Only for changing a flat.

When you try to start the car, what sounds do you hear? when you turn the key? and sounds?
It could be flooded. I for got how to do this but; Dont pump the gas pedal. Instead, press the pedal to the floor, and run the starter steadily for a short intervals of 10-15 seconds.
Have you tryed that?
Have you checked your fuse by the clutch? there is a main fuse that blows sometimes.
Is your car bone stock? how many miles? any mods what so ever? engine? system?

Also more info on the room fuse I got from swoope:
Check your owners manual.
The fuses are in the drivers kick panel.
The ones facing you on the bottom.

Look at the fuse in the light. Is the S looking thing broking?

Also check this out about deflooding your 8:

Sometimes the car will sound like it wants to start then when you try it agen it wont. The key will turn but nothing. Thats how you know its flooded.
In your case it might not be flooded.

Have you checked your spark plug wires? make shure they are on all the way. If they are not when you push on them with your hand you will hear a pop sound. That means they are now on all the way.
You dont have to remove the driver side wheel to do this. Just remove the engine cover and look down on the driver side. Right under the air box house where the throttle body is you will see the spark plug wires connected to the coils. With a flash light follow the spark plug wires down and with your hand press on the ends to make shure they are on all the way.
I have been told they tend to come lose over time and pop off or out.

How many miles are on your 8?

I have a felling its your fuse. Some guy had the samething happen at the end of 2008 and he posted in the RX-8 Discussion about it. He replaced the battery, had the car towed and the fuse was blown. Thats why it would not start.

I'm going to PM you.

Also try to reset the ecu. When you turn the key on pump the brake peddle as fast as you can. You will see the oil gauge sweep to the center then back down.
Next hold down the mile trip re-set, turn the key to on and pupm the brake peddle as fast as you can you will see TEST and the oil gauge sweet to the center then back down.
Repeat one more time.
See if that helps any.

Too much? not at all. Anything to help a member out.
50k. Dam might be your coils man. When you turn the key on and the lights come on TPMS Engine OIL ect ect, let the key sit. Does your engine light flash?
Your coils might be fryed. Not to common but its worth taking a look at. I would take one or two off and have a look at them. Its not hard just dont drop the bolt for the coil. Its a 10mm and with a long socket and a extension you can get them off and back on in no time.

Reported. This isn't the lounge.

likenobody - if deflooding the engine doesn't work get your tow hooks out from your trunk and have someone use a tow strap to pull your car out of the garage. Make sure you let the tow company know that you have tow hooks and all they need to do is pull it out.

Tow hooks are in your trunk next to the OEM jack stand.

But back to the issue... I know its been said before... but since the engine cranks, you say it has plenty of fuel, and the spark plugs were replaced... that covers the 3 core elements of combustion... unless you're not getting air caused by a valve being closed somewhere.......

Did you confirm the spark plugs and coils were working - making spark?

A lot of spam is. It doesn't mean it's not spam. There are plenty of forums here where Alfy can get the attention he needs. No need to ruin good threads in forums that prefer not to be inundated with giant pictures.
