Kumho Tires out of stock
So what is the consensus on the 295 A6's? The CS guys seem to love them. They are about the same height as the K's and since they are Hoosiers, they should be light. Who has run them and with what success? Any rubbing or mounting issues?
Mr. 516, you can disregard. I am trying to throw you off the scent?????

I think Team likes them, though...schooled me pretty good
We ran the 275's at the Fort Worth National Tour. They worked great there.
Put about 20 runs or so on that surface and there was very little noticeable wear. But that surface is extremely kind to tires.
This past Sunday, Jon and I ran them at Mineral Wells which is very abbrasive aggregate asphault, well known for it's gravel. After a combined 6 runs, we had cords showing on the RF tire. In all fairness, it was 95F. And the course was something like 95 seconds long, for me. I forefitted my last 2 runs so Jon could have a chance to run on cooler tires after copious amounts of watering.
All of the other tires seemed to hold up well. Took top pax on my 1st run, but we were missing a few high pax ppl for the event.

Overall, I've been very pleased with the Hoosiers. They haven't given up anything in transition, and I think they are better in sweepers. But for a 2 driver car in warmer weather, you really have to watch the heat.
Also, the gearing hit is noticeable in tighter corners. We plan on doing some back to back testing later this year. But so far I'm convinced we will be running them at Nats. Especially based on how well they did at the recent tour.

I think that I am going to give them a shot. More rubber shouldn't hurt, right? As long as they don't rub and I don't need a specialty shop to get them mounted. Unless they change the dynamics. Any issues with not being able to get the rear end to rotate?
Can anyone tell me where the best place is to get a set of the Rota's for them? I don't see them on Tire Rack's website.
thanks,
Fuji Racing also sells them with contingency available I think.
I bought my rotas from "wheel dude" through another mazda forum. Good price, free lugs, and colors other than time attack.
Don't you want to but another set of SSRs? What wheels did you use for your rains?
I believe the Atlanta DoubleX Pro Solo winner was on 295s for the first time
I have 32 runs on mine. They took some wear near the outside groove at the divisional event due to an understeer issue and in general this seems to be the most worn area on them. Having corrected the handling balance they are wearing faster than V710s, but still look pretty decent overall.
I'm not having any issues at all with the outside corners. At some point you need to be prepared to flip them on the wheel to get max wear life. I'll probably do that after this weekend's event. I also swap them front to rear after every event weekend for wear purposes. No rubbing. Takes 3 guys with crowbars to get the outside bead under the wheel lip, but they'll air up and seat fine once you wedge them on.
My intention is to keep using the 295 Hoosier A6s when this first set wears out ...

It will be interesting to see how many people switch from kumho to hoho because of supply and then stay because of performance.
TeamRX8: It looks like there is a run on 295 hohos, tirerack shows fewer than 11 on hand! Hope you have a good supply.
I think Chris H. is forcing all of his competition to BFG R1s?

My current set of 285's just passed the 90 run mark last weekend. Mix of grippy asphalt and concrete (Peru) surfaces. The keys to longevity (like any Hoosier):
#1- Run plenty of air (40 psi+)
#2- Keep'em cool.
#3 - Rotate front to rear often (Every 6 to 8 runs for us)
#4- Flip'em on the wheels at 35-40 runs
#5- Most importantly, don't overdrive the natural understeer of the RX8, you will just overheat and grind the edge of the tire off.
More maintance than a V710 for sure, but you can get a decent amount of runs out of them if your diligent.

That should be a lot of fun. I wonder if it will be a lot harder on them tires with all that torque.
Did you cover the licence plate because it read "MYRX8". There is a guy at work that comes in with a Civic with a plate that says "BMW318".

Natural understeer? What natural understeer?
Tirerack-NV didn't have 295s in stock and it cost less to have Hoosier West ship them to me than paying state sales tax, sorry Chris.

To be totally honest, I could do without the stripes, polished wheels and gawdawful hood scoop...and the car is kind of a throwback...but, I'm a die hard ohv V8 guy (that's my Tiger unibody, covered and on the rotisserie in the background) and love driving the Mustang....well, I've only put about 100 miles on it, I just bought it on Sunday. It should be fun, for sure
I don't know about tire wear, but you can easily get 2 degrees of camber in the front, so, with f/r management, it shouldn't be too bad.

No issues with the 295/30r18 A6 supply, we have another shipment arriving tomorrow in South Bend.

apparently the ratt finkel is all-knowing
I suppose my car is also set up wrong since it's not taking any hit in slow corners or off the line

The wheels are 18X8.5"
And...you guys really think I care what a bunch of pencil protector wearing, panty waist, ***** at a limp rag like C&D say about anything? Those idiots picked the RX8 #1, wtf do they know?
Seriously, their effeteness is only surpassed by their arrogance...total tools.

Yep. No worries, though, the 295's look just right on the 8.5" TR rims that were suggested
TR is kind of the "house brand" for Tire Rack, made by Enkei...saved me close to $400/ea. over the Volks, but they do weigh about 1.5lbs more...I can live with that math.
