Kumho Tires out of stock
We ran the 275's at the Fort Worth National Tour. They worked great there.
Put about 20 runs or so on that surface and there was very little noticeable wear. But that surface is extremely kind to tires.
This past Sunday, Jon and I ran them at Mineral Wells which is very abbrasive aggregate asphault, well known for it's gravel. After a combined 6 runs, we had cords showing on the RF tire. In all fairness, it was 95F. And the course was something like 95 seconds long, for me. I forefitted my last 2 runs so Jon could have a chance to run on cooler tires after copious amounts of watering.
All of the other tires seemed to hold up well. Took top pax on my 1st run, but we were missing a few high pax ppl for the event.

Overall, I've been very pleased with the Hoosiers. They haven't given up anything in transition, and I think they are better in sweepers. But for a 2 driver car in warmer weather, you really have to watch the heat.
Also, the gearing hit is noticeable in tighter corners. We plan on doing some back to back testing later this year. But so far I'm convinced we will be running them at Nats. Especially based on how well they did at the recent tour.

Hopefully my tow rig won't be used up as fast as a set of hohos!
I bought my rotas from "wheel dude" through another mazda forum. Good price, free lugs, and colors other than time attack.
Don't you want to but another set of SSRs? What wheels did you use for your rains?

I would like another set of SSR's but don't want to spend all that cash again. One set is enough. Besides, I don't think the light ones are available anymore.
I ordered a set of cheapos from Tire Rack for the Wets. They are a pound lighter than the stocks and I figured they would resell easier than mounting them on stock rims. They are too heavy for anything other than wets, though.

No change from the last post, a small shipment was confirmed "on the water" 4/22. Add 6-7 weeks "best case" for transit time, port inspection, transfer to warehouse etc.

Any update as to when the Tirerack will have a supply of V710's back in stock?
We finally received a response back from Kuhmo on the 245/35r18 V710's. The only information they could provide, at this time, is confirmation that a shipment of 245's are "on the water". They were unable to confirm when the shipment left or when it is expected at the California port. Of course this makes it very difficult to estimate when we will actually receive product in our warehouses. The best I can do is estimate it will be less than 6-7 weeks (worst case) or as quickly as 2 weeks (not likely). I wish we were able to access more accurate information, but this is the reality of the situation.
285/30R18 V710's are in-stock (If you can find some one that can mount them) and of course alternate, competitive brands are also available.

The contact we are working with on this ETA issue is not directly involved with sales or product inventory levels, they are just managing the paperwork, shipping allocations etc. The US sales/marketing team we do work with is very aware of the ongoing issues and desire for additional sizes/updates needed for the V710. Many of these decisions are ultimately made by management in Korea after recommendations are made by the US team. Keep in mind they are looking at a much bigger picture than just our extremely small part of the market.
No new information has been passed along since my last posts on the subject. "New" sizes will have the updated profile like the 225/45r17, they will become available throughout the rest of the year but no firm arrival dates have been given. Details have been discussed in other posts on the subject and it has not yet been determined if the new construction will be an improvement for the Solo crowd.
Updates to the current sizes have been "rumored", but this will not occur until at least 2009....if it happens at all.

Kumho has experienced huge growth over the last few years and is now a well known brand. Is it possible they are in the midst of doing what others, such as Yokohama and BFG, have done...meaning, now that they don't "need" Solo II, there is less interest in serving the Solo II community? On the other hand, I would think they would want to keep their presence in SCCA road racing and the 245-18 is a common size, so maybe it's more just a matter of their trying to manage production in the midst of rising oil prices and global economics...
But, remember, Hoosier has been a player, continuously, in Solo II for many, many years...and has sizes that will fit the '8...and, is made right here in the U.S.A., so you don't have to wait for no stinkin' boats

I know I go through a ton more in tire money than any of my non-racing friends and family!
I am sure most racers will be willing to pay for a quality tire for their non-race vehicles.
We have a huge influence on any friends and family looking for tire advice.
I completely agree that Kumho should care about us.

If anybody is still looking for the 245/r3518 size, I was able to get a set of 4 at an extremely good price from a local dealer in Lexington (Scott Bourne, who is a top notch H Stock driver, as well). He advised me that if anybody else in the Eastern US needs them, he can provide them at a price that is extremely competitive. PM me if you need them and I'll put you in touch with him.
Tirerack has the 245's back in stock at one location and pending in two other locations.
I want the 285's, but I don't want to spend 300 to 500 bucks shipping everything to Tennessee and then to Iowa. Anybody got some ideas (that are not trade secrets) on how to mount those big Kumhos? I am picturing alot of tire snot stuff and a huge racheting strap wrapped around the tire to squeeze it and get it to seat.

Oh, those folks in Tennessee definitely know how to do it. Just not sure whether they are going to volunteer the information.

Well Jon and I wised up. Ordered a set of 285/30/18 A6's. All I have to say is....WOW!
I coned away 2nd in PAX and Jon took 3rd on a clean but slower run. These tires are FAST!
I really wish we would've tried these sooner
I have no doubt in my mind these are better than the "spec" tire in every way. I just hope Jason doesn't read this

I sure love all this butt-dyno talk... Show of hands on how many of you have done a back to back test, same day, same course with two new sets of tires. Without that it is nothing.
