Here are some pics. They dont feel as responsive as the stock Dunlop's did................... Even though everyone said they have great "steering response".

 

Nice....Check your air pressure, and give them some time to 'warm up'....it's gotta be pretty cold up there.

 

I put more in them, response felt a little better. It may be because its cold. But my Dunlops were in the same temp. lol

 

Yeah, I hear the sidewalls on those tires are extremely soft. When you make an aggressive lane change the car feels like it's going to tip over... so I've heard.

 

It wasnt bad when going into one turn but if you're making a couple sudden changes you feel it.

 

if they're brand new you have to break them in.
you have to put afew miles on them for them to grip..

depending what size you have they are rated from 44 - 51 psig max pressure

you should run the front tires that high, but not the rear

what you may feel is the suspension not holding up, the higher the tire grip the more it taxes the suspension, DOT-R race tires feel like sh-t on the factory shocks yet they obviously grip and perform with the right equipment, crap shocks just roll over and play dead though and the OE shocks are junk

with almost 800 owner responses they are rated superior for dry grip and steering response on the Tirerack feedback poll, they fel great on our car but we have Koni DA shocks, stiff front sway bar, and race alignment on it.

 

How is the interior noise with them?

 

You can most def hear the difference. Its not horrible but you can hear it. Doesnt bother me that much because I listen to music most of the time, unless I'm going to take off a little fast, then I want to hear the beeeeeeeeeeepp. LOL

 

nice, from what i've read, most of the high performance tires are pretty loud anyways.

 

since when does the 8 come stock with dunlops? i coulda sworn they were bridgestones

 

i have those tires and have taken them to the track a few times, i love them and if i can afford it i'll get another set, i also found that they were very good in the rain too, deff would recomend them

 

At one time they were using both types of tires on the RX8. I think they switched back to the Bridgestones.

yeah, i dont recommend it unless you have some good amount of experience under your belt. but i did it last year, even a little this year, what little we got.

heck, my old roommate (my ex's sister, dont ask) took my car out in the snow, and the house was on a little bit of a slope, so its not like it was just out and about.

driving in the snow, when you go to slow down, make sure the clutch is pushed in or the tranny is in neutral, as the rear can and will kick out

 

the difference between the stock tires and the kdw-2's were night and day, so much more grip but i put them on around this time last year but i live in NC and hardly get snow, go out and heat them up alittle, and they will be better, i did notice them being alittle slick the first few days but i heated them up a few good times with some sideways action and they felt real good after that, dont give up on em yet, give em some time.....

I have these tires on my car from the precious owner. He staggered them with 225/45 front and 245/40 rear.

I'm having a helluva time getting the tire pressure right for autocrossing. Also, b/c of the staggered setup, I get bad understeer.

Any recommendations on tire pressure? Any other easy fixes to help with the understeer until I can replace these tires?

I had these tires, and hated them. but I keep hearing about people buying them, and I can't imagine why. They were louder than any tire I have ever heard, and IMO did not have "good" grip. At the track, not where they belonged really, they melted, looked like dimpled wax. Autocross chunked them pretty badly, and not from understeer, just how the wore out. IMO, they were crap tires. For the money, there are better options, that are quieter, and provide as much grip if not more.

 

I have these tires on my summer rims, they are the loudest damn tires I have ever had. It was a relief to put on my snows, at least now I can hear my engine on the highway.

 

Update: Went back to the place I got them installed and they are going to call the warehouse to see if I can switch or get reimbursed for the tires.

in my experience, absolutely. There were two speeds I could not drive, 42 and 80. At 80, the shrill noise of the tires gave me a headache within 5 minutes. I tried to trade mine in too, but the tire shop said no dice.
