1000 song cd changer -> ipod nano

My xmas present to myself. Total bill was $500.

- 4GB nano in black
- Neo Ion SP (Dension cable, no box)
- proclip nano holder and AC vent mount

Install was a snap.
I plugged the cable into the cd changer port and routed it up through the passenger side. They sent me a mini cradle instead of the standard nano cable but I made it work. It was in the Dension playlist mode already. I do have to adjust the volume (pretty loud at 8 volume setting). The proclip holder has a swivel which makes it easy to face the driver.

Here's a few camera phone shots, I'll take some with my digital camera later.

I forgot to mention the steering wheel buttons work and to change playlists I hit the cd changer up/down button on the stereo.

girliegirl: sure, pm me.

coolbluedad: It's in there pretty good. It snaps in and also uses sticky tape on top and bottom. The only negative side of the a/c vent clip is that it blocks the time.
I also have the proclip that goes on the right of the stereo for my greddy e-01.
I'd recommend either of them (cell phone, ipod, pda,..)

Thumbs up

Awesome...exactly what I wanted except I will probably not do the mount. Would there be a problem with keeping it hidden in the console or ashtray??

The console gets pretty warm, especially in Fl. It should fit in the ashtray with alittle modification.

A good post, Adrian.
If I understand you correctly, you're setting the volume to 8 in the RX8.

Using an iTrip, I usually have to set mine to 10, and the ipod volume is set about 80-85%. About how high are you setting the ipod nano?

No, the dension has volume settings of 0.5V, 1V, 2V, and 4V. If your in the Dension playlist (not ipod menu) the ipod volume doesn't matter.
It was set to 4V when I first put it in and couldn't go higher than volume 8 on the headunit since it was way too loud. I changed the setting to 1V and it's more comparable to radio volume when switching (volume usually around 20-25 now).

I just got a ipod nano last week, so all I need is the Dension Ice Link sp kit? Do I need a PIE adapter? I have the stock single cd headunit.

All you need is the Neo ion sp kit, link is in my first post. Enter in stock radio, Mazda, RX8, and year and it'll pop up.
ALSO, you need to verify your headunit is firmware version 9.55 or you may have issues. That site tells you how to check, I've forgotten.

If your version is older, you'll need to talk to your dealer about a flash or updating you.

Looks great. Another place to install the cradle is on the right side of the stereo. There is a small plastic plug covering an unused hole. I used some old bike shoe pieces for a DIY clip, but you could use any small block of rubber, screw, and washer. The idea is to use a screw to compress the rubber against the hole, with the washer sitting behind the hole. This is the achor. the Dension cradle can then screw into the rubber block. I think it's a nice position because it gives the passenger a good opportunity to use the iPod. I'll try and remember to throw up a pic. Anyway, it's another idea for mounting without permanently disfiguring the car. It's not stealth though, so I'm thinking about getting the dock-only clip and keeping it in the glovebox. Once you get used to it, you don't need to spend much time looking at the iPod while driving (the whole point, eh?). It just works!
