Series 2 Winter Wheel Talk

Hey so I figure the S1 guys have their own winter wheel thread so maybe we could use one as well. Anyone got pics of their S2 with winters on them? I actually just picked mine up today, which i will probably install a few weeks into november

Dude we live in CT not Fargo lol. Those rims look sweet tho, are they hubcentric or should I say do they have adapter rings? I think I'm gonna forgo the rims and just slap a set of Alpin PA3s on the stock rims. I'm driving on clear roads 98% of the time..

HAHAHA i know but last yr i lived in downtown hartford and they didn't plow worth a damn (i swear to god) so I just cant risk anything. I work down in E.Hartford and their plowing sucks as well.

I am mostly highway and my family lives north of boston, so i gotta be prepared lolz. I believe they are hubcentric, thats actually a good question. Tire Rack said its compatable so hopefully.

I'm just worried about that 3" opening along the front of the car--thats just 4 inches off the ground-- that leads to the radiator come winter. That looks like trouble.

Our radiators sit pretty high, plus, if the snow is high enough that you are like plowing the road, you probably shouldn't really be driving anyway lol

Well I called the dolts at Tire Rack and the guy I spoke to said he's been working there 18 years and ALL aftermarket rims need hubcentric rims which is simply not true. I think the Elbrus cheapo rims I was looking at might need them and I don't want rings. I need a machined bore! Looks like I'll need more research. Are your MSWs hubcentric paimon?

I will have to take a look, I hope so because it didn't come with any rings, and these guys "recommended" this package. If they arent hub centric i am making them come swap em out, theres no way I am driving around tires in my baby again lol

Yup u need the rings---and so do I I just got the same ones..

Well the Elbrus 102 rims I wanted aren't avail till the end of December so I went with MSW 14s, 17 X8 with 225/50 Pirelli 210 Sottozero Serie II tires. 1200 delivered. All of the rims the Rack carries now require hubcentric rims.
This did not used to be the case.

I don't have a picture of my S2 on my winters, but they are just stock S1 wheels.

You DO NOT need the rings to mount those wheels. I have run many a set of wheels without the centering rings, even using them on the track as well. The rings are just there to make installing the wheels a bit easier, but if you just methodically tighten the lugs in a star pattern, it will seat itself. And when you torque the lug nuts to spec, all of the vertical load is taken by the friction between the wheel and rub, not through the rings. The rings are often made of plastic and are non-structural. I am a mechanical engineer and design/analyze vehicles for a living.

O rly? I thought you couldn't properly center the wheels without the hubcentric rings. I mean the slightest misalignment will cause crazy vibrations. It isn't really about the transfer of load since the object in question sits within the load transfer points but moreso alignment.

Man you always have something negative to say huh ... anyway, the point of this thread was mainly to show pics of the S2's with winters so people can see the options available to them.

Gotta choose what side of the fence you are ... the
"why do the S2 people post in the S1 forums" or
"why do the S2 people think that they have cars that are way different than S1"
