S1 & S2 Throwout bearing interchangeable?

Done a bit of research (read the other s2 clutch threads here) but couldn't find a definitive answer.

I'm replacing my clutch & parts on my 09 r3 due to a failing throwout bearing (screeching when clutch pedal out and sometimes hard to shift into gears).

Is the S1 throwout/release bearing interchangeable with the S2?
I see there are differences on the atkins site:
https://www.atkinsrotary.com/store/F...wout-Bearings/

Is it just an "upgraded" bearing? I found other aftermarket (ACT,koyo,VKC3600) T/O bearings labelled for 04-011 Rx8's too so I'm guessing they should fit all series.

Related question: Exedy also has different kits for S1 vs S2 series. The description doesn't mention any differences. Is the only difference the T/O bearing?

Thanks

No idea but when I was looking for OE TOBs for my car I noticed that the S2 bearing is about 1/2 the price of the S1.

Where have you found s2's half the cost? I've only seen atkins and then a bunch of aftermarket ones.

Even mazdatrix has a T/O bearing that says can fit 04-11

It should be interchangeable

Koyo RB0511-NTA

There’d be nothing wrong with buying the OE S2 bearing if it makes you feel better. They used those on the MX5 Cup race cars.

From Mazda the S2 is over 50% less than the S1, the internet difference is likely them using the Koyo instead

That's roughly the price I paid for my S2 TOB.
You can look it up by part number:
S1: FE62-16-510C
S2: LF01-16-510

Awesome. Thanks guys. I guess it doesn't matter which clutch or bearing to choose (except for the exedy HD bearing which has gotten a bad rep here) as long as its for the rx8.
