UK R3 - Steering Wheel controls

Hi, just finished my 2010 R3 restore after it was taken off road by the previous owner with only 1500mls on it! However having now started the car after repairing the front damage (not hard enough for air bag deployment) I have no function in the steering wheel controls or horn, the fuse box was mashed although the panels inside where intact and visually looked ok.

Has anyone comes across this before or can advise as to the wiring. It is untouched under the dash so can only assume its somewhere else or do i need to perform a reset?

Cheers

It sounds like the clockspring (Under the steering wheel). That would be my guess but your statement of the bags not having deployed calls my assumption into question.

Paul.

Do the PCM (ECU) re-set I posted in your other thread.

IF your Fuse Box was 'mashed', I suggest you make certain none of it is actually damaged where things work like Horn Relay, Relays, Fuses, Wiring, Wiring Plugs.

BTW: Did you need to renew Fuse Box with another?...if so from where or what model RX-8?

Agree with Paul from Mazmart.

Thanks Paul and Ash8 for the responses.

Regarding the fuse box: the panels or boards survived unmarked with only two relays at the very front losing their covers. I replaced the housing from a series 1 as could not obtain a series 11 at the time, however did not dissassemble/disturb the panels/boards other than checking the connections.

Will look over the boards again and check all fuses/relays as well as PCM reset.

Would be surprised if the clock spring has failed but would not rule it on given the fault.

Will take a look at post my finding.

Thanks you both.
Jay

Edit..Sorry my error..

The Bottom Part of Fuse Block is the same BUT, the Relays are different and there is the extra one for the extra Series 2 Fan Speed.
The Black Cover of Fuse Block is different because of the different configuration under lid Cover.

i think he just took the fuse box itself, the internals are the s2 internals (panels, fuses, etc)

Jay, I would be checking that you have re-attached the S1 Fuse Box (or what ever parts you used of the Series 1) exactly the same as your R3, do you still have the original black lid or cover?, as it should be wired to that configuration, not the S1.

So just to confirm.
The lower part of the Fuse Box is the same as Series 1.
The upper black Cover or Lid is not because of config layout label.
Make certain you have connected all original R3 wiring like your original Fuse Box.

(BTW) See my edit above.)

Hi Ash8, just to confirm as per paimon.soror commented the internals are S2 originals, however the outers base and lid are S1.

As I did not have the lid could someone be kind enough to post an image of the layout please so that I can double check.

Many thanks.
Jay

I do hope this doesnt end up being a can bus problem.
Everything else is working--correct? no dash lights, no codes--obd 2 port working ok?

i dont think that would be the case here, the horn and steering controls all use PWM. Although the steering buttons do pass a message on the CANBUS, they should still operate with a failed transmission.

Thanks for the layout, will compare in daylight, I imagine (or hope!) its a simple issue such as a relay or connector.....

I did consider the CAN but everything else seems ok, dash lights function although have not checked the OBD yet.

Hopefully will get this nipped in the but before jetting over to Korea on Sunday morning.

Can confirm the US uses the same Fuse Box Cover as UK and Australia...see the F189 (Left Bottom) on the inside white sticker in pic, that confirm sticker's part number.
I checked with mine (S2) and it is the same as pic.

Therefore configuration will be the same, however, some features may not be used like Rear Fog, Headlamp Cleaner, Seat Warmers.

Also Series 2 Fuse Box Lids did change on production date...
F189-66-76Y Lid......used up to June 1st 2009
F189-66-76YB Lid.....used from June 1st 2009

The 9 or 11 same RELAY'S also changed from MARCH 1ST, 2009 Production.
B115-67-730 Relay up to
UM46-67-730 Relay from

IF confirmation on which Series 2 Fuse Box Lid or Relay's are used in your car for whatever reason, please PM me with your complete VIN.

Neither of these parts above supersede or interchange (yet) with each other "officially" by Mazda.

yall are right --clock would be the first thing to suspect.
But why would it go bad if the air bags where not tripped?
