"R3 brakes are suppose to squeak a little"

Is that a bike rack?

I know what your talking about....I assume its something with the ABS or power steering or something...I only notice it after I start car, back out of driveway turning, then turn wheel straight while moving...i hear the noise, slightly feel it, then it never does it again until next start up. I assume its nothing to worry about....lol.

Sorry for the ressurection but I was thinking about this thread the other day. So my brakes started squeeking as well (only 12,700mi on the car). I thought it was due to the cold, but even on the warmer days I get the squeek even when it was like 60 out a few weeks ago lol. No big deal, and def not because the brakes are worn, but just wanted to indicate that I too have the squeek on a non-R3. end story.

After almost 50,000 miles, my OEM pads continue to be silent, long wearing, and grippy. The only downside is the dust, but I think when they need replacing I'll stay with the factory pads to maintain brakefeel and response.

I bought the RX-8 for my son for his birthday and after the "catalytic converter debacle" he's now hypersensitive to anything being "wrong" with the car. So he comes to me the other day to report the brakes are squeaking. lol I told him, "Sorry bud, metallic pads squeak". You wanted an R3, live with it.
Of course, I *didn't* tell him that when the brakes on my C6 with the Z51 package started squeaking, I took it to the dealer service department to complain too. I learned something new then, he learned something new now. (...and it made me look, like, super-dad-smart too...hahaha)

Just to add in here there are no 'R3' specific brakes...they are the same as any other Series 2.

Brake service should be done every 10k to minimize noise and extend life, Since I cleaned mine they havent made a sound in almost 7 month (and its winter here).
open up the system, buff the disk, clean the pads/shims, regrease and aply some glue spray behind your pad so they release properly and that should fix your noise, we charge about 100$ for 4 wheels here at Nissan, you can do it your self if you buy the proper products and know what your doing, and it will definatly fix your noise issue.
The actual noise you are hearing is the pads moving in the shims as the disk rotates, if your hear noise at higher speed it could be something else completely.
and By brakes beign cold i mean embient temperature, embient temp is cold, 200o is hot

I used to love those lifetime warranty AutoZone pads. I'd trade them in every so often and never paid a dime past the original $50 or so I paid for them.

The ceramic-pads suggestion is a good one. On my previous car, a VW Passat that weighed several hundred pounds more than the RX-8 and had smaller brakes (d'oh), I used EBC RedStuff ceramic pads on the front and EBC GreenStuff organic-fiber pads on the back. Never once had a reason to complain.

Um...this has nothing to do with the car being imperfect. Metallic pads squeak sometimes. That's just how they bloody well work. There's nothing wrong with them, therefore there is nothing to fix. Do you complain when your gearbox makes noise too?

If you happened to read through these posts you would discover that the initial issue I experienced went beyond a little squeak. It progressed well past that and required parts to be replaced. Pads/rotors. After that was finally accepted by Mazda that is.... Only took three visits for the same issue. When the service manager herd it scream from across the lot he came around.
I've have used the same pads that you have used and well understand their harmonic tendencies or lack there of.

If the problem was glazing buildup on the pads, consider using slotted rotors in the future. The edges of the slots scrape the pads clean. I had good luck with them on my previous car; they also improved wet braking immensely.
