Oil light and white smoke
Hey guys, its been a while. I've had a similar issue to this before but seemed to have resolved itself... until 2 days ago. The issue came back even worse than before. My "oil level" warning light is flashing constantly every start up, never stops. And yesterday, I noticed that every time I start it, white smoke (blue-ish) just bellowing out of my exhaust. It goes away after driving but it's scary lol. I'm not sure if it has anything to do with it, but I deleted my air pump so my "baro" sensor thing is ziptied up. I also have a catless midpipe. Otherwise, it's bone stock. It's a 2009 with just over 100k miles. Been my daily since 84k with very little issues so having this problem out of nowhere is a little frightening. Just please don't tell me its rebuild time rofl

Update.
I installed FORScan and hooked my car up to my laptop. I found Code : P1687 metering oil pump stepping motor #3 control circuit.
I'm assuming this means my MOP is bad, which is unfortunate but I had to say, ive seen this coming for a while. Looks like a real pain in the neck to replace, too.

I know there's 2 OMPs on the series 2. Is there any way of knowing which one it is? I know I can access one by removing the battery tray and removing the passenger front wheel. Where is the other? There's not much information online about the series 2

The UIM is pretty straightforward, I don't think you'll need the LIM. Before you tearing stuff apart (or I guess as you're doing so?) check for oil in the intake. That's often how you get smoke clouds. It's supposed to be harder to get oil into the intake on an S2 but if you have enough blowby, anything is possible.
2What I'm getting it at is it might not be apparent what's wrong with the OMP even if you get to it, so eliminate other possible issues as you go.

This car is so bipolar. It started up and ran as good as ever. No oil light. No excessive smoke. So now I'm confused. Maybe the OMP is on its way out but not completely broken yet? Either way, I ordered some replacements im going to replace both of them. Even if it's not the issue, I'd like to rule it out

If they were driving hard, do you think it's just an oil burp and they starved the OMP pickup for a moment? S2 OMPs practically never fail spontaneously like this.

Not possible. The light came back the very next day and hasn't shut off since. Im not sure what caused this. I always change my oil at 1500 miles and I use 10w30 conventional oil. Could it be because I used a K&N oil filter instead of OEM last oil change? I'm just about at my 1500 miles so I'm not sure why it would just start out of nowhere. Im going to try to replace them with a known working used unit. If that doesnt fix the issue, I'll be really confused haha

There might be an issue with the k&n oil filter. Series 2 has higher oil pressure so that oil filter might be getting bypassed even if they state compatibility with series 2. Typically aftermarket filters cater to series 1. Don’t know if this is contributing to your problems but, something to keep in mind next oil change.

Update.
Changed the OMPs and the oil light is still blinking. Biggest pita job ive had to do on this car. That upper intake manifold isn't the easiest thing to take off. Either way, I changed the omps, got the car back together, and started it up. Runs perfect. Only thing is that oil light. Currently waiting on my parts guy to get me a couple oil filters and a new dipstick (I broke it). Should be here Tuesday. Will update again after oil change.

Now, i am lost. I changed the OMPs and the oil, using genuine mazda parts, and the low oil light is still blinking. It seems to be burning oil as it should but I've also been pre-mixing a little heavier as well. Runs and drives as it always has. Maybe its a bad sensor somewhere? Im really not sure anymore
