Yep, as I said, the VFAD "door flap" is used on High Power engines (6 ports) and the Tube without a VFAD Door is for Low Power (4 port) engines...

That is how it has always been hasn't it??

claus 06-16-2010 12:42 PM

^ correct !!!

...plenty of Standard Power Series 1 RX8's here in Greece !!!

Yeah but a 2010 GT Auto would be a 6 port correct? The tube I have is out of a 2010 GT Auto and it does not have the "flap".

Oh..OK...Sorry mate..

Well if this is the case looks like for 2010 Mazda have changed the Air Intake Hose.
I don't have a 2010 EPC, but, my Series 2 shows a change at production date November 1st, 2008, where the Standard Power went to the same High Power and VFAD.

In other words ALL RX-8's from Nov 1st, 2008 had ONE VFAD, Only the High Power
N3H3-13-200C.

At some stage after this date (late 2009 a guess) Mazda Changed yet again for the Auto's with NO VFAD Flap.

I wonder 9k if the 6 speed Manuals still have the VFAD flap set up??

I will get back to you with some Part Numbers and Info..

9krpmrx8 06-16-2010 04:36 PM

Hmmmm, We have a couple of R3's in the club, I will investigate. I will post pics of the pipes tonight.

MC8jai 07-08-2010 09:44 PM

Can you be more SPECIFIC...What "Trunk Piece" are you talking about???

BlueR3 07-08-2010 10:52 PM

My R3 had the whole flapper door and tube setup. Ditched it for the REVi setup.

MC8jai 07-09-2010 09:55 AM

yea i am sorry, what I meant was the trunk.

claus 07-12-2010 01:51 PM

ash8,

once more a very very big thumbs up for all your knowledge that you keep sharing with us...

i have a rather important issue to ask & discuss...

i know you can compare and contrast all RX engines... :icon_tup:

have you seen a apex seal/ oil seal difference in materials regarding Renesis I vs Renesis II ??

if not, the misinformative propaganda on Mazda's part regarding synthetic oil use and that it gumps up sensitive internal oil seals etc can be once and for all disproved & busted

and i don't know whether you noticed, but on Renesis II owners manual, synth oil use ban changed from "damage to internal oil seals" to "starting performance could worsen" :suspect::suspect::mdrmed::mdrmed::mdrmed:

ASH8 07-12-2010 05:49 PM

No Difference between Series 1 and 2 as far as Internals go..

The Synthetic issue was to do with the Oil Control Ring "O" Rings,,,the OEM ones, with A Particular BRAND of Fully Synth (real POA) Engine Oils.

It was easier for Mazda Japan to say NO to ALL rather than single out a brand, and the "fallacy" that Synthetic Oils require less maintenance activity or topping off with rotaries or ANY engine which is also WRONG.

Sorry, But I am NOT going to discuss OILS anymore in this thread, as it is Boring, been done to death and meaningless.

MC8jai 07-14-2010 10:09 PM

hey ASH. sorry if I missed it..can you confirm if the trunk for S1 would fit onto the S2?

Mate, you NEED to be more specific when asking ANYONE about Parts for ANY car, considering there are over 3,000 specific parts for a car.

A TRUNK what????, I guess you are Talking TRUNK Lid, or Trunk Badge, Or Trunk Hinges, or TRUNK Stays????

I will go for LID...;)

OK, In this case there are more than ONE, and that depends on whether the RX-8 you are talking about has Side Spoilers, which will also Identify a Trunk Lid Spoiler??..

OEM's new replacements have Holes in them for Spoilers??..

Also, depending on VIN or Date of Car Manufacture in the Series 1 would also depend on "which" Trunk Lid..

Mazda did a production change on S1's on 2nd, Feb, 2007, not only the Trunk Lid, But the Rear Bumper, for Clearance or Gap between Trunk Lid Lip and Bumper and Rear Tail Lamps.

So basically a S2 will not fit a S1 made Before 2nd Feb, 2007, there are a few other Variables..

BUT, you need to tell me what is the purpose of your question, in this instance.

Are you wanting to put a Second Hand S2 lid on a S1?..
Or are you "trying" to install S2 LED Tail Lamps on a S1??..

Either way, I need more info for EXACT response...Including your VIN Number.:)

Beefy98 08-15-2010 04:16 PM

I'm nervous that even the dealership is gonna get things wrong with the later cars when things need to be done down the road. Hell I went to to the parts counter there and the puerto rican still brought out the old, incorrect oil filter even though I told him right off the bat that the 09 and up have a different part #!

ASH8 08-15-2010 04:39 PM

Yes, unfortunately there are no "Schools" for Parts guys for ANY Brand/Make of car, in most cases Dealers use young Guys who like cars, they may stay for a few years and leave or they may stay on to be management material..

For a Parts guy the Salary is terrible (not much better than a Wall-mart, McDonalds worker or whatever).

Only in Management do you earn reasonable money.

So, given that 99.9% of ALL Retail Car Dealers are privately owned, what is expected?

Unfortunately we (parts guys) are expected to READ Peoples minds (see above) and it can become VERY tiring.

Plus you have a model of Mazda (the RX-8) which is SOLD in very small numbers at a Dealership (6-12 a year or less), so the parts guy get very little hands on experience with the S2 8.

9krpmrx8 08-15-2010 11:45 PM

Oh hey ash, here is the pic of the duct from the automatic 2010 RX-8 GT compared to a 2009 R3's VFAD duct. Took this today when we were installing a RB Duct on it.

http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4117/...6ef7121d_b.jpg

ASH8 08-16-2010 04:10 AM

Yeah, it is interesting...

Originally the Auto's never had the VFAD Duct, having said that My Mazda EPC says for Series 2 the Auto went to the Manuals VFAD from 1st Nov, 2008 (H3H3-13-200C), before that date the STD Power used a H3H1-13-200B.

I need to get my 2010 EPC Update done, so sorry I can't confirm the changes in 2010 models.

Does not seem to make sense to go to the VFAD (same as Manuals) in 1st Nov, 2008 for Autos, and then back to a NON VFAD in 2010??

I will try and find out more info..

Spin9k 08-16-2010 06:41 AM

^ what doesn't seem to make a lot of sense anymore is to have had the V-FAD in the 1st place.

I realize and can appreciate all the theoretical reasoning for its being there, but then MazdaSpeed the 'performance' arm of Mazda ditched it w/their CAI, Racing Beat ditched it for their 'performance ram duct', all other CAIs do as well, and now, with this, Mazda proper has seen fit to ditch it after making the auto rpm range closer to the manual, soon after they added it in! As I use the RB duct, and have for several yrs, all I can remember of the V-FAD is that it gave a hickup in the power delivery every time it kicked in on track going through the gears....something like...

zooooooom (cough) zoom, new gear zoooooom (cough) zoom, etc :scratchhe

...guess Mazda came to the same conclusion .. or something?

yiksing 08-16-2010 07:20 AM

^Agree, its just kinda dumb to tone down intake noise for a sports car

9krpmrx8 08-16-2010 09:46 AM

Yeah I never got the VFAD either. Oh, and I am using that 2010 Auto duct for a new spin on a custom CAI ;)

ASH8 08-17-2010 03:52 AM

OK, 9K, got a reply from my Mazda Spare Parts Manager here in South Australia, he has been with Mazda Parts for over 25 years...I asked him for 2010 RX-8 Fresh Air Duct sets..

His reply..

Hi Ash. All they list is std-power part number is N3H1-13-200B
There is also a high power part number: N3H3-13-200C.

Which is the same info I have listed???

MC8jai 08-18-2010 07:01 PM

hi ASH8, sorry for the confusion. What I wanted to know was the trunk lid from S1 (04) would fit S2. I bought a trunk lid from a member that has a 04. I am thinking of putting a wing on it, since it is mounted differently from my factory ones.

ASH8 08-18-2010 08:48 PM

By "wing" I guess you mean "Spoiler"??, I can't see why not the Spoiler ONLY from a S1 would fit on a S2 OK, not so sure...if you already have a "wing" I would be make sure the Holes are in the same position??...can't tell you that one..

And as I said the LID from an 04 wont fit an 09 correctly....give it a try if you want to.

As far as a Complete Trunk (Boot) lid changeover from a S1 to S2, as I said there is a change in S1...see above, watch out for Tail Lamp Clearance...if that is what you are doing??

Rear Differential Differences

2 Attachment(s)
I recently installed a 2010 model rear differential in my 2005 RX-8 Race car and noticed that besides just the gear ratio change they've also mildly redesigned the whole differential and differential cover. The main difference is that the differential cover has much deeper fins and a cooling extension off one lower corner. Look like it must provide at least a little bit more cooling to the differential. 2010 differential on left and original 2005 differential on right.
