How often does your A/C cycle on/off?

My 8's a/c compressor seems to cycle rather quickly between on/off with A/C button on(manual climate control). Blower setting does not seem to affect it but it's every 20 seconds it'll cycle on for about 10 seconds then cycle off. I haven't counted it out, but it's pretty often. A/C performance is great, blows very cold and gets there quickly just hearing the compressor kick on and off so much is pretty annoying. I'll get a video when I get home and start warming her up for the oil change.

all normal.... much depends on how hot a day it is, and if you recirc air or use fresh air.

All the time. I get a pppppsssshhhhhttttST! sound every 20 seconds, sounds like its coming from the right rear of the interior. Drives me nuts. Thankfully I don't need A/C hardly at all where I am.

My A/C compressor behaves the same way. System performs great. The cycle time must be normal for this system.

Anyone else's make a rather obvious knocking sound when it cycles on or should I be getting under mine and seeing what is clunking?

Check out the links in my $100 thread below.

You can re-program it for longer cycles, also there are several mods that will make the cooling system more efficient on that list as well. Those mods make life easier for the AC too.

mine on hot day at max AC cycle on and off every 5-10 seconds. I always wonder if cycling on and off that fast would burn out the AC fans?

There are a few instances where cycling is normal, such as cooler weather, low refrigerant and WOT. In addition when you use the defroster it is programmed to operate the compressor to remove moisture from the air. On a hot day here in Texas, I rarely see cycling unless I am taking a long trip and cabin temperature has been stabilized, beyond that it is running constantly.

Obviously IF you are overriding system and letting in Hot Air, (not on Recirculation but on FRESH hot air), then everything is going to stay switched on for longer, work harder, use more gas, etc...than is required.

See MAZDA M-Tip "Lack of Cooling'...here
