Credit Card Style Fobs not working
Hello everyone, I have a 09 GT, and the credit card-style fobs are not working. I can take the key out and start the car just fine, but I cannot start them just with the key in the car, or use any of the buttons on the fobs.
I have replaced the batteries, and the led on the fob lights up when pressing buttons.
I have been looking and everything I find is for the older style key fobs and not for this style. If anyone has any advice to get this working that would be great.
Thanks.

If you take it to a dealer, they'll charge you something ridiculous to tell you something vague is broken. Call up a locksmith, and they might be able to reprogram the keys. If they can't be reprogrammed, then you may need to look into the associated computer modules. They might even be able to tell you something more specific.
An alternative might be to get a shop level diagnostic tool. I got one (Autel MX808S for what it's worth) for my fleet and car club use that is about the bottom of the line cost wise for what an actual shop can get away with. I recall it ran me around $350, which isn't exactly cheap, but it does a LOT more than just read off codes. It's the same model FCP Euro (popular European parts supplier among the enthusiast set) uses in their shop, according to their tech support people. I know I've seen the menu item for reprogramming keys, but I've not had occasion to try it out.

If it's like the Mazdaspeed3 I have now, then you can't reprogram the Advanced Keyless Entry remotes(card type for RX-8, stick type for Mazda(speed)3) yourself without special tools. You can reprogram the Keyless Entry remotes(switchblade type) yourself with a DIYable procedure, though.
Sounds like this started recently? You can try to use Forscan and see if the module itself works with a compatible Bluetooth OBD2 adaptor.

Just to clarify if I take the key out of the fob I can start the car.
I wonder does anyone know if the antennae for this is somehow tied into the Bose amp on the rear deck? We just installed new speakers and head unit in the car and that amp is unplugged now.

Locked out and can't drive!
Hi, I'm quite simply locked out and stuck between a rock and a hard place.
Mechanical Key doesn't open, key fob doesn't work anymore. Anyone have a solution or procedure??

The fact that the key doesn't cycle left also tells me there might be a physical jam. I'd try to get in through the other side and find a way to get the door open or remove the door handle inset plastic on the inside, and see if you can figure anything out from there.
You might want to remove the key from the lock while trying to lock/unlock it otherwise, to avoid that becoming a blocker.

There's a not-uncommon issue with the door lock motor becoming unable to fully cycle with age, requires motor replacement. Can you get in from the other side? It would be unusual for both locks to fail at the same time. You can see through the window if the manual lock/unlock button attempts to move when you use the fob.

Thanks for the ideas. But neither lock cycles. The car only makes sounds as if it were operating the locks. Nothing happens.
Before everything worked fine, then i had a slow battery death, and voltages reached only 4.5V. Then nothing worked obviously.
I charged the battery from the starter motor leads under the car and now you see what's going on in the video.... i'm truly stuck.
Does your Mechanical Key turn LEFT? mine never has and never opened the door mechanically.... I always suspected a problem.
best,
Marco
