Single DIN ‘Hovering Screen’ Head Unit
I’m away from my car for a few weeks and would appreciate and love to hear your thoughts on something that I can’t get out of my head.
I have for a long time been thinking of replacing my 2010 R3’s BOSE (the complete system: HU, amps, speakers and all) with an aftermarket unit as I have all the other components needed for a double DIN instal (double DIN S2 fascia, front & rear Focal speakers, powerful amp and all wiring) alongside the mods I have already, my iPhone in a bespoke mount on the instrument binnacle, a Bluetooth receiver plugged into the centre console Aux In socket, and a high power mono amp running a sub in a bespoke enclosure replacing the ski hatch.
I’ve not done anything yet as I’d much rather have a screen higher up than the HU position, I’m likely to be doing less than 5,000 miles a year, and my car is noisier than stock (High flow CAT and RB Revi catback).
I've seen a single DIN with 9” hovering screen’, the Alpine Halo 9, that I’m considering putting above the centre vents, by removing the dash plastic panel above the info display, securing the cage to the dashboard and making a carbon fibre cover to go over the lot and cover the area left by the panel’s removal. I suspect the screen will cover the info display but I’m relaxed about that. I may leave the now-defunct BOSE HU in place in order to avoid spoiling the centre console or I may find some use for the double DIN fascia plate and its double DIN aperture.
I'm a reasonably competent DIYer and will do the work myself.
Has anyone seen this sort of thing done or advise what to watch out for?

I am building a solution for A|C controller and have hardware on test with someone who has owned a metra kit,
feedback so far is very very positive.

If anyone has a tame app designer, a solution that drops the hardware control panel and uses an app + bluetooth would only need a simple hardware interface.
Edit; Soory should have made clear this relates to your S1 post.

I got the Atoto F7 XE, nice radio, but I regret getting a floating system all together.
