Metra Axxess ASWC Universal Steering Wheel Control Interface (Black)

Pioneer AVIC-X920BT 6.1-Inch In-Dash Double-Din Navigation A/V Receiver with DVD

All from amazon, total cost 594 after my 200 dollar comcast rebate
I bought nearly the exact same set up, save for the head unit, I got the Avic-X940BT. Newer version I suppose? Anyway...

I'm going to do the installation with my son this weekend, since we'll have the car gutted from stem to stern to do the amps and subwoofers, etc as well, I'm trying to answer all my questions prior to disassembling the car. He's a junior in high school so he'll need it on Monday.

The VSS wire from the Pioneer HU.... I can haz wire color/location where you hooked yours up?

Thanks for any help.

LOL, Ahhhh. When in doubt, leave it out. Ok, thanks for the reply. I'm going to track down that VSS if it's the last thing I do. When I find out where we can tap the VSS signal, I'll post it up.

Thanks again.

out of curiosity, why do you want to ? I dont believe the HU uses it for anything other than some of its GPS functions ... none of which i have had issues with.

No biggie, actually you are exactly right. I wanted to hook it up for the Navi. I live in South Texas, so there aren't any tunnels (or tall buildings..lmao) so there's actually probably zero chance the GPS will ever lose satellite lock, but hey, ya never know. lol

I guess I'm just a little OCD, leaving a "loose end" detail like that hanging, even if it's never likely to affect me at all, just drives me nuts. Probably a good trait as a physician, but pretty much just an annoying pain as for the rest of life.

Fun little fact i found on the pioneer Website if you don't like your standard start up screen or one of the other presets you can load your own HD logo on an SD card and it will fade in and out on start up. Now i just need an HD Mazda RX-8 logo and i will be set.

Watch this video around 1 min.

I'm installing the same head unit it my boy's R3. If I source a Mazda logo, I'll be sure and let you know (and vice-versa! lol).

thats correct. when you plug in the obd2 cable, you can then set the clock, then unplug it and it will retain the clock until the next time you do a battery disconnect.

Looks good to me. FYI i didn't have good results doing it that way. The Axxess is very sensitive to a good connection. You can def give it a shot, maybe you will have better luck than me, but I had to resort to tapping into the n/p wires on the vehicle harness itself.

Great! Really happy for you that it turned out ok. But, like I said in a different thread, you did it like I do/would... you did your homework BEFORE the process of install started so you were prepared.

Can't wait to see your results!
