Fitting large subwoofer box in trunk

After several weekends of measuring and building, I was finally able to get 3.5 cubic feet of box into my trunk. It was a PITA and I will need to destroy it to take it out. The old prefab RX8 eBay box was just too small to get decent sound out of. Basically, I had to build two separate boxes, glue and screw them inside the trunk, then glue and screw the face of the box on last. I did most of the paint while in parts, but then did touch up paint while assembled in the trunk. Especially the face because I had to fill the screw holes and prime and spray to blend in.

It sounds amazing. I'm not sure I can really access the amplifier controls, though. If anything happens with the amps underneath, I will probably need to demolish the whole thing and start from scratch. It definitely seems to be heavy enough to have effected handling. If I ever want to do autocross or anything, I may need to rip it out and try a fiberglass approach.

.75 cubes for each sub is just not sufficient, I don't care what the sub manufacturer says. Plus, sealed boxes always sound rather boring IMO. For the casual listener, I'm sure it's fine. But I have higher expectations, especially when each front speaker is getting 200 watts a side. Small sealed boxes aren't loud enough, and don't play low enough.

Lakersfan1 nice set up! Too bad our Lakers struggling lately... But we will bounce back.. We always do! Anyway, thats another show.. Just wanna know how much this bulid cost you and what kind of "ebay" subwoofer box you had before? Not sure what kind of speakers and size and amps you were running, ButI have the "Zenclosure" box that's prefab for RX8 that I purchased online not too long ago and I'm running two 12inch Alpine Type R speakers and Alpine Amp and they sound awesome! Its Loud and its clean, it thumps and it bumps... I consider myself not just your average casual listener. Ive had systems before that has a expensive custom big box that covered my whole trunks space.. To me this size is perfect...I can take it out anytime with just removing 2 screws.. And I can access my amp anytime I want with just lifting the cover that I customized (wood on black carpet with plexiglass window showcasing the amps) . I also kept the cut outs and cover them with carpet.. I take it out when I wanna show the amps. Not only it looks clean but I can still utilized my trunk space without scratching the plexiglass.. I know to each his own.. Im just sharing mine..

That's pretty much the setup I had except with Image Dynamic 12's instead of Alpine. It was weak with 800 watts of Rockford power. My 2 Alpine 10's in this ported box are much louder and smooth. Although I've built much louder in my day. But this trunk really is small.
