good thing i liked my car before i bought it.

EMS and a little more power would be nice, but not a necessity for me to enjoy my car...

You know. The aem fi-c can control fuel and retard timing. You don't really need much more than that to boost with. I don't know if it's even possible to wire one up to run a renesis on the series 2 PCM, but it may be an option

I have always wondered about the aem fi-c even for the series I renesis.
wiring doesn't look fun honestly...as you would have to splice a ton of wires...I hate wiring.

any experience with this MM?

If the AP doesn't magically appear for the 2008+ this year, I'll start looking for alternatives for you guys.
What are the chances of a viable turbo setup for S2 by fall 2011? I'm deploying this fall and the first thing I want to do when I get back is turbo my 8.

If i may be so bold: what's the diff with the S2 PCM? Did they change all the fields, values... and stuff?

Entirely different hardware.
Several dozen new parameters.
And a fraction of the original potential customer base.

Either way, Cobb needs to give us a Christmas in July present...

The "marketability" theory holds true to some extent, but I'm sure there's not a big market for alot of cars that Cobb has put an AP out for...example 1, example 2

And the sad part is..Cobb would have a Monopoly on tunability for SII RX-8s, because Mitsu, Nissan, and Subaru are ECU hackable through ECUFlash. I had this set-up for my Evo VIII, total cost 70 bucks for a cable.

There is a huge market for Cobb as far as the evo x goes...also you need to look at the ease of developing software to tune the different types of cars. Mitsubishi doesn't lock down their ecu's like Mazda does so there isn't nearly as much time dedicated to r&d thus making it much more profitable. How much would we actually gain if we were able to tune with a cobb? I gained like 20% more hp and tq on my ms6 and even more on my evo x.

There was no market when they began production, as stated in the article I posted, they were immediately available at launch...

...but I'll give you that. I just find it hard to believe that people that develop this type of software on a daily basis find it "difficult" to get into these ECUs. I'm sure there are ways around the "authentication" methods used by Mazda, especially since they've broken into the MS3 and MS6. I'm not a software developer by any means...but seriously, what makes it more expensive to hack a Mazda ECU as opposed to a Nissan ECU?

Just my .02...

You just have to look at the potential for the product to be profitable. Cobb came out with the MS6 ap after they released the one for the MS3, because it wouldn't have been worth their time or money to develop a product with such a limited client base. I have a 09 rx8 and I would love to have an ap, but if I was in their position I wouldn't spend the money to develop a product that has such a small chance to make money. Now that Mazda is saying that they aren't going to produce the 8 anymore there is almost no way we will see an ap.

Only the European market.
We still get the RX-8 for at least one more model year.

I just hope some tuning option is around by the time I get back from the desert. If I come back with $30k in pocket change and no turbo to spend it on... I will not be a happy camper.

I don't know who "everyone" is, but Cobb had a GTR at their facility nearly a year before you could even buy a retail specimen here in the States.
They had the PCM unlocked right as the first North American models hit the floor.

Let's hope we get a 16x.

If Jerry Brown gets elected as Governor of California it will never happen.

He believes in the three tree rings and the lying scientist.

Butt.......... if we can buy carbon credits to drive the vehicle we want.......

150 vehicles sold a month total for the Series II?!?!?! wow... that is not even close to enough to justify spending all of that money on labor and R&D to develop something for the new engine. This is unfortunate for me because I, like the rest of us on here, would buy one but a total marketplace of maybe 50 buyers, even at $1000, doesn't seem to make much sense.

MM, let us know if you find an alternative, there are only three mods that I am going to be doing to my 8, intake exhaust and computer.... Just hoping I can find the computer...

For anyone who is curious, just go to Cobb's web site and check out their forums. They said the 09+ AP is dead in the water with no plans to start it back up. Hopefully another company out there will give us some sort of user friendly tuning solution. If anyone finds one, please let me know.
