RB midpipe
 

Any owners of the racing beat catless midpipe notice it devoloping a rasp? I'm deciding between the rb and bhr midpipe. Any oppinions on either are welcome.

I can't speak for the RB, but I have heard it does get raspy/loud.
I have the BHR & I really like it.
It's only slightly louder than stock with a deeper note. It has a bit of a hissing sound at first, but it diminishes after time, or I'm getting used to it & don't notice it as much anymore. :)
I think someone may have done a poll on midpipes once, but I'm not sure. I think the BHR would be the most popular choice.
It's pricey, but you get what you pay for IMHO.

I am leanin towards the BHR mainly because of other midpipes wearing out n their sound getting crappier.. definetly want the best for my car and I dig the mellower sounding pipes like the racing beat n bhr. Side question.. does your BHR shoot flames? I think thats a pretty cool bonus of takin out the CAT.

Idk cause I never had anybody tell me it does, but I hear it happens a lot.

I've had for the RB for about 2 years and it hasn't changed at all since the day I installed it. Can't speak on how it will perform beyond that, but I am happy with it so far (besides the 2nd resonator being so low it scrapes).

How much lower is your ride from stock? Coilovers are probably my next mod.

No idea, maybe around 3 inches? Wouldn't be able to give you a definite answer.

I have the RB midpipe without the resonators.. I can attest it does have that rasp. I personally am not a fan. However I went with the non-resonated one simply because it is supposed to be a track only car. But I do like driving it around just for fun. That is something I need to get over. =)

Will any catless mid pipe shorten the life of the o2 sensor?

I've had the RB dual resonated for about a month now, and there isn't any rasp. Any non resonated midpipe will have PLENTY of rasp, guaranteed. I love the resonated pipe, it is pretty quiet though. If I could have no rasp and 30% more rotary noise I would, it sounds like how it should have from the factory. Only downside I would say is the smell, which is only when your stopped at a stoplight and the wind is behind you. LOVE the fireballs too :lol2:

I just installed the RB midpipe with no resonator today. It is super raspy. I'll have to get use to it. I'm a little indifferent so far. It most certainly better than the stock cat.

For what it's worth, any packed resonator will eventually burn out it's packing. I bought a RaceRoots one to swap in for track days to save the stock cats from burning up. I bought it simply because it was the cheapest dual resonated one I could find and as I wasn't going to be street driving it much, I didn't care much about sound, but it is a bit raspy between about 3000-4000 rpm, so you'll hear it a lot driving around town and I'm pretty sure that there's not much left in mine any more, but track driving will wear it out MUCH faster than street use.

Rotarys are known to destroy mufflers! Could just be a turbo rotary thing though.

I use the non-res pipe by RB. It was really raspy at first. But when I refit it with new gaskets and Borla exhaust it seems you can't hear as much rasp. Doesn't sound half bad. But I am planning on getting the BHR resonator to weld in.

My DR RB pipe has only gotten better with time. No rasp, nice deep tone. No regrets whatsoever.

I got the racing beat non-res midpipe. I also use an hks single exhaust as well. Good lord that combo is LOUD! Regular driving around town is Loud enough to set off car alarms and that's me shifting at about 4-45k each gear. Highways I feel like Im just asking for cops to pull me over. But otherwise I love the sound and I never have to worry about packing burning out. My car also shoots 8-10inch flames which is pretty awsome lol. But I digress. I meant to ask if anyone else had this pipe and noticed a lack of low end torque compared to having the cat in place? It seems like my car kinda struggles to move or get to high rpms when I use this pipe but has no problem when I have the cat in. Could it be the lack of backpressure? Or am I looking for a different issue?

I recently installed a used, resonated BHR midpipe.
It is slightly louder than stock, but I am not liking the sound. Rather 'tinny'. Sounds reasonably good 5k+, but cheap and tinny around town shifting at 'normal' 3-4k.

I plan to have a custom midpipe made out of a Porter 'steel-pack' muffler. I've not seen this done and fingers crossed, it'll be awesome.

Sounds like a good idea man. I'd love to buy that bhr pipe off you once you do the custom job. Did it feel any different from stock?

I am gently breaking in a reman engine, so no way to tell if it feels different....
The part will go up for sale if/when the custom pipe is made! :)

I have the RB dual res pipe, no change in low end for me. Only thing I could think of would be running a little richer with the test pipe in. Do you have the check engine light when the pipes in? I do but, my A/F is nice and lean until 5k or so and then it's 11 flat all the way to redline 😔. Less back pressure is never bad for a rotary, and please god don't ask about pulse tuning.

I completly agree when you say its LOUD, i wasnt sure it would get too much louder then just the HKS cat back However i can tell you i was dead wrong i try to shift before 4k to keep it quiet anything after that and its fantasticly loud ;) no idea if it shoots flames to be honest dont really let people drive my car but its a great combo i love it. But anyone considering it. When we say its LOUD believe me its fooking LOUD, first time my fiance herd it was when i was on my way home from work i only work about a mile away and she said she could hear me getting on the highway and coming through the neighborhood and let me tell you i wasnt on it getting on the highway shited at like 6k maybe 6.5k.i dont notice lack of lowend power,

I thought mine sounded a little odd, with a "whooshing" sound added to the mix. I got used to it pretty quickly, but when I had my HJS race cat welded in (got sick of the stench), it changed to sounding much more like OEM.

I've gotten more used to the sound. Still rather metallic, ringing or 'tinny' to my ears at normal, relatively low rpms.

I hear the 'whoosh' at higher rpm/throttle input as well! Curious if the whoosh is the exhaust, intake, or combination of both. At 7k+ it starts to sound almost jet-engine like. You can tell a lot of air is being combusted.

What type of baffle/muffler is inside the RB midpipe?

I have a RB duel resonated catless mid paired with my HKS hi power. No rasp from what ive heard after 3-4 years.. before i had the AP duel Mid and my ears would bleed.. lol super raspy.
