2.5" midpipe

Just picked up a used resonated midpipe for $50. What are the benefits to running a 2.5 vs 3". I couldn't pass up the deal.

Midpipe question

Does everybody that's running one get a check engine light? I've searched and seen that guys that do get the check engine light say that it doesn't effect performance, how true is that? I picked up a Megan racing midpipe without a cat

There is a cel fix that I used on my evo ix, it is a spark plug fouler which backs the cel out of the exhaust stream and it worked. I'm installing the midpipe today and I'm going to use that to see if it works. It worked on the evo so hopefully it will worth on my r3. I will keep you guys posted on whether it works or not

No the cel that you will get is a p0420 code and that is basically the O2S that is in that pipe telling the ecm/ecu that it the the extra exhaust is not being burnt off/ collected in the cat. This doesn't effect performance in a bad way. If you are concerned bout the light being on or passing emissions, the easiest thing to do (IMO) is to get a Cobb Accessport download the AccessTuner software which is free, and you can eliminate what ever DTC's you want, this is the route i took I've been running catless going on 4yrs now and haven't had not one issue.

Check engine will deffinetaly come on if theres not Cat for Catalyst efficiency, a O2 Bung extender (fouler) (dont know what spark plugs as to do in your description) could foul the signal but is not 100%. And I never had proof of one working on a S2

Don't bother. It's been tried many times before and no one has reported success.

He has an s2 so the cobb will not work for him, it is only for 04-08 cars. You can still pass emissions if you only have the obd2 test you just have to time things just right after deleting the cell with a scanner.

Disconnect the battery right before your test? Light won't come back on for a bit.

Ahh damn. but that is true to if you have a scanner clear the code and once you start it after you cleared it do not shut it off at all drive str8 to the emissions but still keep the car running after you get there. vehicle needs at least 2-3 drive cycles to to flag a DTC and make it hard set. but if they use the sniffer system you might have an issue lol

It's original purpose is to back out a spark plug of the cylinder on lawn mower engines that burn a lot o oil. Back the spark plug out and it's less likely to foul out the plug. I'm older than most, that's what they were called in my day, lol

My RB no res mid pipe always makes the light come on. Usually after 30 miles or so.

They can detect that, when you disconnect the battery it resets many of the tests so they would be able to tell you recently disconnected it or reset a cel.

Yes and if you have a scanner you can check the emissions readiness through that. In Nevada you can pass with one of the internal tests incomplete so its not that bad.

With my midpipe I can sometimes go 400+ miles without getting a cel.

Yes that is normal, it has one resonator correct? The packing inside of the resonators will melt or get eaten away by the heat slowly and you end up with some wicked rasp on most midpipes. Not a huge deal but if it really bothers you you could upgrade to the bhr midpipe which I believe has no packing so it should sound nice.

Yes it has one resonator. I will eventually upgrade to the bhr when the govt gives us military a raise! Lol
