HKS single exhaust, installed.

ok guys,i tested waters with this exhaust seeing that, this exhaust was designed for s1,couple things ive came across while installing this,

everything pretty much slips right in,just like a glove, however at the very end of the tip,its kind of touching the shroud/shrout however you call it."plastic peice on top of the exhaust" you cant just get a longer rubber hanger thinking the exhaust will drop alittle, answer: no, once its bolted down it still touches the bumber just alittle though, what i had to do is use a dremwheel kit,and start cutting and trimming, probably about 20 mins just to fabricate the shroud,

my personal opinion to this exhaust! what ever video out there that has a hks single exhaust for rx8,if your looking for sound, and the video still has you hesitating, just order the damn thing and install it. cause this exhaust sounds freaking nice.i cant say anything about power gain, but it sure feels different.

I used this exhaust several years ago. Yes, It's worth 50HP!! 55 if you add stickers.

Seriously? You notice better starts, all angles, drag, drifting and turning? Really? C'mon. Does it cure insomnia too?

It's a nice sound. You will notice little if any handling differences, but will save some weight. It is very loud and will put you over sound limits in autocross if you run catless and they enforce the limits. And yes, it will burn the shrouds.

I do recommend the exhaust but for the right reasons.

^^ you know what i ment when i said all angles,i mean the exhaust makes your car act alittle different. tame your reactions down a bit bro......

melt? thats the first exact thing that came to my mind when it was touching,
i wanna say the exhaust space between would be half n inch, that shot your looking at was after fab the shrouds.

Weld an extending piece to hanger to make it sit lower, ooorrr go to the local parts store and ask for a exhaust hanger ( if you can bring the stock one along even better ) and ask for one that is a bit taller.

Like this one for example http://www.summitracing.com/parts/WLK-35750/?rtype=10

It's a bit loud for my taste. Maybe if it was a track car or toy only. But since I drive mine very day, not my cup of tea. Sounds good, just to loud.

I think it looks good and I'm going to go the same route with that exhaust but I'm going to massage it so there won't be any cutting to the shroud on my r3

If your riding on coils with max drop using your massage method It will more than Likelly scrape for the most part cause the exhaust angle. For everytime I prepare for a stance meet I would feel slight scrape but not enough to damage the exhaust! Try it out n let us know!

Just ordered my hks single exit exhaust last night. When I ordered it, they said it was for a 04-09, correct me if I'm wrong but the 09 has the same rear bumper as a 2010. Either way I'm going to get it to fit without cutting the rear bumper. When I get it on I will post pics! Infantryman are the jack of all trades

Mistahjg, can you post some close up pics of where you had to cut? I want to see how much I have to get the exhaust to hang lower. If I can't get it to work I'm going to copy exactly what you did with the dremel

unless im stupid and not using my stupid head,i know there is a much cleaner method to execute the exhaust without cutting anything period.however
ive tried a few odds and ends to make it fit without fabricating.point blank period it wasn't design to directly fit for the s2,so really all it left me was to shave the reflector and shrouds,

off topic question:
can anyone here link me to a site that sells the "HKS metal catalyzer midpipe"?
i want to match it with the exhaust set up instead of using mix set up
thanks

It is welded together at that specific angle/position. In order to change the positioning you would have to either drop the entire exhaust system down, bend the pipe, or cut and reweld the pipe to a new position.

Put the HKS single exit exhaust on today. I was lazy and did the same as the op and just cut and trimmed the shroud. I trimmed a little extra so it wouldn't melt the shroud

Just wanted to confirm from my own personal experience, installed the HKS Hi-Power yesterday with 3 polyurethane hangers and it fits like a glove. No problems with the tip being too close to the bumper and with the vehicle being lowered no problems so far with scraping the muffler itself. Very happy with it, longest part of the install was finding boards to roll the car on so we could get it on the lift

I just purchased a $5 longer hanger for a Chrysler I think at Autozone and it worked great. Cheap looking hanger but it hangs it low enough to never come even close to the shrouds. The only other option I would suggest is buying 2 of those hangers and double them up so that you wont get any left and right sway of the pipe and it should be perfect.
