2010 rx-8 r3

I recently purchased the 2010 RX-8 R3 (sparkling black mica) model from our local Mazda dealer here in a place that is as far east as you can get in all of North America. As a result, there are only a handful of RX-8's here, and my 2010 so far is the only one of that model year in this Province. The dealer at most only gets one or two of these per year; That makes for a pretty unique ride on our local streets here in Newfoundland :D

The down side to this uniqueness became apparent to me when I had the first service check done by the dealership and they did not even have a filter for an RX-8 in stock! Custom order So, when I started to inquire about performance modifications, all the red flags (same ones I read about here regarding warranty) start to come up. I suspect however that some of those red flags are the result of their inexperience with the RX-8.

Anyway, the question I need some help with is with respect to the Mazdaspeed performance accessories. I know these are more expensive, but specifically, are the Mazdaspeed performance parts, such as the cold air intake and the dual muffler sport exhaust compatible with the 2010 model? The current version of the Mazdaspeed accessories brochure for the RX-8 confirms compatiblity with the 2009 (specific part numbers), but are these 2009 parts also compatible with the 2010?

Current version of the Mazdaspeed accessories brochure (recently updated):

http://www.mazdaspeeddevelopment.com/pdfs/msacc.pdf

Appreciate any input you can offer.

I was told at the stealership on the weekend that even if it is mazdaspeed, if it has a yellow triangle sticker on it your warranty is void.

yes

'09 and '10 cars are identical, except minor trim/equipment/available color differences, and the deletion of the "mazda" badge on the back (i think)

and congrats on your purchase!

the op said he/she saw some kind of cross-reference form them to '09 cars, but yeah i dunno about that; as far as i know the only exhaust for '09+ available comes from racing beat one

the mazdaspeed/aem cai works on '09+ tho

Ok, now this is weird. Yesterday I downloaded what appeared to be a brand new accessories brochure from the Mazdaspeed Motorsports Development website and today it has changed back to the old one. To prove it, here are a couple of pages right out of the new one. Note the different part number for the dual muffler exhaust for the 2009 RX-8.

R3 color options are HEAVILY based on where in the world you are. WWP R3s are available in Canada and UK, but not red I think. US is red and blue, I didn't know the black mica was an option for the US at all, but since he is saying he is in Canada, I assume WWP and Black Mica are their R3 options.

I wouldn't be shocked to hear that other color combinations are possible elsewhere in the world.

Gratz on the purchase!

That certainly looks like a green warranty notation, which means that the exhaust itself only has a 12m 12k warranty, but there is no mention that it voids any of the rest of the car's warranty.

Even the orange items appear to mean that they have no warranty at all, and if that part caused the failure (which they would have to prove) of an OEM part, then the OEM part loses it's warranty as well. The "void all warranties" is from participating in track events, which orange items should only be used in. They aren't directly saying that orange items voids all warranties, but it would probably require a lawyer to get them to cover oem parts with orange items on the car.

I still say you are safe getting the Mazdaspeed exhaust, though make sure your dealer agrees with you before you purchase and install

that is correct for the us. in '09 r3 was available in vr, aurora blue, and bb. bb was dropped in '10. in japan, r3 (or type rs) is also available in wwp and sparkling black mica, maybe even other colors. in the uk, wwp is also available. i dunno why they're so varied, but given so few r3s are sold here, it probably doesn't really matter anyway

and it does look like from that catalog that mazdaspeed has an exhaust for '09 cars

I'd trade in for a WWP R3 if they were sold here. Seriously.

I gave up and sold my white 05 GT for a white 09 GT, I figure I can swap the bumpers later and well, the seats don't matter *that* much.

Appreciate the feedback from everyone, and as a result am in the process of ordering the following Mazdaspeed parts for my 2010 RX-8 R3:
  • Cold Air Intake: GRMS-8M-K50
  • Sport Dual Muffler: GRMS-8M-K11
These are the 2009 part numbers and understand these are compatible with the 2010. I'll report back here the results of the order and install. Given the cost of the Mazdaspeed parts, I think that's about all my wife is going to let me do for this year :D

Just buy a white one and make it into an R3...there really isn't that much difference. Plus since they sell a white one in Japan you can get all the parts pre-painted.
