Yeah most of us are not planning on hitting curbs, slamming into large potholes, or racing a full season. If he was a racer then he would have a pretty good idea of the different quality and effects of different wheels, he is obviously asking opinions on the looks of the wheels. Not saying that hitting curbs or slamming into potholes isnt possible but atleast we dont have to dish out $400 for 1 new wheel and drive on egg shells. Now i think i speak for most people here when i say i dont race against a clock on my way to work so ROTA wheels are my choice.

Your point is totally understandable but I would bring the copied designs issue up then. Since that's mostly a moral issue if performance is not a factor it's not even worth discussing it though.

Woman driver. The wheel was probably cracked and just finally gave out. As stated before, any cast wheel will crack if hit hard enough.

that said we all know cast wheels crack when impacted and forged wheels bend, in both cases it usually ends up badly for the driver bend a wheel loose tire pressure crack a wheel lose tire pressure. I know everyone who owns an rx-8 is a professional race driver racing their car every weekend and all but really not everyone is interested in paying 4k for wheels that do the same job even if they only save a few tenths at the track.
Compare these to stock wheels... similar manufacturing method, similar quality, similar weight just different design. face it fellow race car drivers most people buy wheels for the look not to save those few tenths of their track times.

The "tenths" at the tracks can actually be in the 1\1.2 seconds range for replicas vs good wheels.
You don't have to spend 4000k to get good wheels either. A set of OZ ultraleggeras doesn't cost more than 900€.

Can but don't always, drivers win the races not the wheels. The top three drivers/cars in redline time attack for 2011 were running rotas.

But a really good set of name brand wheels don't have to cost an arm and a leg. Many can be had brand new for under 2000 easy. If you wait for a good used deal you can get away with it for a lot less.

Sure would suck to spend more on a set of wheels than it would cost to buy a mansion

Cast wheels can bend and forged wheels can crack also; nothing is set in stone in this area as many believe.

To be completely honest, these XXR's should be fine for regular driving. However, all wheels get old with time and should be replaced eventually. These may *wear* slightly quicker than a proven wheel, both being beat on on a regular basis.

Without knowing the supply chain of a company, I'm personally wary these days. There are companies charging upwards of $8000/set of four, who's suppliers would surprise many, and not in a good way. On the flip-side, there are manufacturers who retail wheels at $1000/set of four who's sources, if known publicly, would instill confidence in their product.

I've had a pair of sneakers from Walmart outlast my a pair of nike's before. All I'm saying is its a waste to spend $300 on a good pair of running shoes just to run on a tread mill. Same goes for my wheels

All wheels break. Get over it.

Ive got a set of XXRs on my 8. They look great and haven't given me any problems yet. If I can remember correctly, the weight was around 21lbs. Im not running on any boost yet so im not too worried about being weighed down. Once I get a decent amount of power to the wheels, then Ill worry how functional those wheels are.

Any update on the 530's? I was hoping you got them and could post a pic. The down side is that all I see is +20 offset on the 18X9.5's...and I got a spidy sense that wont work..

RX8 is gone man. I drive 3.8 R-Spec Genesis Coupe right which runs very good looking 19" so I stopped looking for wheels as of now. But I would still get those for my new car or the rx8 , great looking wheels.
