"Winter's Coming And I want to go Home"
Winter's Coming and I want to go home....and to work! LOL
OK , so this is not a new question, but it is to me.
Winter in Northern Ohio is bad, real bad. I've been driving a
front wheel drive car for the last 20 years and any ole all season tire
works fine. I used to drive a rear wheel drive car in the snow, but
that was 1978 and a lot has changed with tires. Now I have a nice
shiny new 09 RX8 and I'm wondering about what to do for snow tires.
I'm thinking about:
215/55R17 Michelin X-Ice Xi2
-or-
225/50R17 Bridgestone Blizzak WS60
The Blizzak's are a bit wider, not necessarily a good thing for
snow tires and a bit more $$.
I would like to hear what others think and use for winter.

I would go with the Blizzaks but why can't you get them thinner?? And you DEFINITELY NEED winter tires. I'm in Western, PA near Pgh and trust me when I say you're car won't move in 1/8" of snow.

I just picked up theMichelin X-Ice Xi2 Green X 225/45R18. I've heard some pretty good things about them and the price was very good. I don't think you could go wrong choosing between Blizzak and Michelin.

I live in Salt Lake City and the winters here are also pretty brutal. I have some Hancook Ice bears. 235 40 18's and have had zero troubles with them. I tried my first winter with all seasons and it was horrible, had to park my car several times and hitch a ride with someone, not good. Got the ice bears and never got stuck even in more than a foot of snow. You can't go wrong with either brand.
