PA will these tires fit these rims??

I have a quick question, new to the rim/tire game and want to see about switching tires off different rims. I have 4 tires off of my 06 rx8 rims. (Bridgeston Potenzas 225/45R18 91W) They are 18inch rims obviously. Looking to see if they will fit my other "backup" rims that are also 18 inches. However they are 18x7.5 and I believe stock rims are 18x8. The current tires on the rims I want to switch to are Toyo Proxes (215/35ZR18 84W). Want to scrap the Toyo's all together and put my ones on my stock rims on them..will they fit?! Thanks guys

Different manufacturers say different things:

Yeah, and this is why I am confused and posted this question. I think I read some'where, not sure since it wasn't a problem for me at the time, but someone had said that 7.5" width tires would fit the 8 inch stock rim. Possibly could have been vice versa, unsure though. There was a debate saying that the stock rim was actually 7.5" width; later I found it is 8". Anyone know for sure if I can go ahead and do this??

It varies by tire manufacturer, so do be sure to check their spec's.

Typically tho' yes you can go with a 7.5 inch tire on an 8" wide rim. In fact Goodyear Eagle 225x45x18 for example can go on a range from 7.0 - 8.5" rims.

Keep in mind that all approved tire widths are narrower than the rim width, or it would be very difficult to get them to seat properly.

btw: why scrap the Toyo T1's, unless they're worn out? They're great tires, especially compared to Bridgestone Potenza's; but to each their own.

The OEM rim is indeed an 8" width (8-J standard).

Ok in general terms, a tyre with a profile < 50 should be on a rim no less than 85% of the tyre width. Following these guidelines, for 225/45, 7.5" is the absolute smallest you can go.

Cheers

Thanks guys. The motegi's have a 45 mm offset, and like I said above 18x7.5. Guess I'll go ahead and put the ones from the Potenza's on..?

225s will fit on a 7.5" rim in case you didn't get that from my other post in the other thread.
