If you have a manual, your brakes are too large for 16" rims

What Big said. A lot of 17s don't clear the brakes on a manual.

Post

and also i read the "so you think staggered wheels is better" thread and in my side quest to find the ms-01 rims from the old days for the fc and fd i discovered that they came as a set staggered i think it applies aswell for the new ms-01s for the rx8... so my question is why they do this is if it causes understeer? maybe because they assume if you can shell out enough dough to pay for these over priced rims, then you have enough dough to make the vehicle fast enough to where it doesnt matter?

Kind of weird to figure out at first, but you'll get it.

stock 8 wheels on manual is +50mm and 18x8.

in your case, the front is 17x8, so all you're looking at is offset because rim is 8 inches just like stock. so 50-35, you will be 15mm out more and 15mm more clearance on the inside. in the rear 17x9, that is .5" out more and .5" in more. .5X25.4mm will get you 12.7mm in more and 12.7mm out more. with offset 50-44= 6mm. you are losing 6.7mm inner clearance and getting 18.7mm outward from stock.

^i just learned this

15mm should be enough to clear the front brakes, but I'm not sure if losing 12.7mm in the rear will clear or not. I don't know the amount of clearance specs for our cars though so gotta get one of the smart people out here.
