Wheels or Coilovers

Hello all, need help on deciding what to buy next. My car is lowered on S-Tech springs with stock struts, I plan and want to buy NT03 first but will I have rubbing issues? I want to run 18x9.5 all around with +27 offset. I will be rolling my fenders but I dont want to pull. I like the stance and drop that the S-Techs give me and I might just buy KONI struts instead. What do you guys think?

J8635621 03-30-2011 03:32 PM

Coilovers first then wheels

jayscoobs 03-30-2011 03:36 PM

why is that?

J8635621 03-30-2011 03:44 PM

They will help to keep you from rubbing (once you get wheels) since they are stiffer and they give you a better look than the s-techs. You didn't say what size tire you want to run on those wheels btw.

jayscoobs 03-30-2011 03:46 PM

I was thinking maybe 255, im not sure about tires, I do like to see a little meet.

Ross_Dawg 03-30-2011 06:30 PM

245/40 would be your best choice. 255/35 would work with just stechs... probably be a bit low profile with coilovers. This is why we normally jump over 255/35 to 265/35. 265's will take some work to fit without rubbing.

Whats more important to you, comfort, looks, or track performance?

What is your coilover budget? What brand are you think about getting?

Your current drop is 1.4/.7 with 207/145 spring rates. Even looking drop but not good for track performance. too low in the front and too soft.

jayscoobs 03-30-2011 07:06 PM

Right now comfort and looks is important until money gets a little better then ill start working on getting ready for the occasional track days.

My budget for coils is around 1.000 more or less. And I was thinking about Stance or Tein's. If I went with S-Techs paired with KONI shocks, you think it will be too low in front for track?

J8635621 03-30-2011 07:14 PM

Pretty sure the people who are hard core about tracking don't lower more than 1/2" or so, and that isn't enough for the people who are more about the look. It's all a compromise. Konis + s-tech will be lower than just s-techs, but everyone I know with those springs wishes the rear was a little bit lower.

jayscoobs 03-30-2011 07:23 PM

I actually do wish the rear was a tad bit lower. I was just going to add a rear lip to compensate for that.

J8635621 03-30-2011 07:29 PM

That doesn't fix wheel gap.

Ross_Dawg 03-30-2011 08:09 PM

Get coilovers, you won't be disappointed.

+1,

Too low for track...?

Does your track have a big speed bump on the front straight? :dunno:

ZumnRx8 03-30-2011 08:54 PM

Lol+1 I just didn't want to say anything because I don't track:uhh:

jayscoobs 03-30-2011 09:31 PM

I just asked if it was too low for track due to highway Saying my front may be too low? Coilovers are following shortly after the wheels so all I'm asking is will I have trouble rubbing for the meantime? Also will the stock lug nuts work with nt03?

TopGear8 03-30-2011 09:37 PM

He didn't mean to low as in it will scrape, he meant that the suspension geometry is messed up when you go at or lower than around 1.4" in the front...

laythor 03-30-2011 09:46 PM

with a budget of only 1000 dollars, i'd vote for neither till funds are in better shape.

jayscoobs 03-30-2011 10:31 PM

budget of + or - 1000 for coilovers, this is on top of wheel purchase. I dont want to spend a lot on a set so im thinking stance which are 1300 I think? something like that. I just realized/forgot that I got some good tires mounted on my stocks, matters well wear those out first before some wheels. I just hate how bad of a job I did painting my stocks, id probably have to redo them for now.

@TopGear8 So S-Techs throw off the geometry? They were on the car when I bought it so I must be driving around with a really bad suspension geometry?

On a sidenote if I go with the route coilovers before wheels and use my stocks still would it be wise enough to throw some spacers on for a wider track as well as get rid of a lot of the tucking.

TopGear8 03-30-2011 10:57 PM

Really bad? no, you won't notice a difference. But if you were setting it up as a pro racing car then yes it would matter.

jayscoobs 03-30-2011 11:07 PM

Decisions Decisions lol. Can the stock lug nuts work with nt03?

So you know how low to go before getting the wheels without rubbing those tires on the fenders.

laythor 03-31-2011 01:03 AM

+1 for Rishie. he hooked me up with my PF01's, has an amazingly wide selection of lug nuts, gives some of the best prices i've found, and is just an all around nice guy.

Ross_Dawg 03-31-2011 02:22 AM

+2 for rishie; all your spacer needs
