What you guys think about Sport Max Wheels?

A friend of mine can get a good deal on these wheels. I like mesh wheels so what do you guys think in 18's with a sweet off set in silver?
18X8 & 18X9.5

Sportmax + Sportscars = FAIL
They are okay looks, but heavy and cast. I just hate the company

DOMINION 01-23-2008 12:39 AM

Why you hate them? They do you wrong?. Not bad for $800. wheels only right? I'll call them on Wed and find out the weight of the wheels. Not bad for a quick fix.

Wind Dance 01-23-2008 07:41 AM

Um I have a certain personal reason, but ehh. Don't let me opinion on them affect your decision. The ones you posted are nice.. just don't get those hideous five spoke ones everyone has. :) Post pics also!

chetrickerman 01-23-2008 07:51 AM

those seem heavy as hell

Wind Dance 01-23-2008 07:57 AM

I think the 925 look nice.. simple yet clean cut design. 962 sucks badly

kennychopra17 01-23-2008 10:29 AM

i kinda like the 502, think its a timeless design.

scsi 01-23-2008 11:13 AM

go with 18x9.5 all around

Wow... Learn something new everyday. Didn't know sportmaz made two pieces already. :lol2:

ocrapitzleon 01-23-2008 02:56 PM

you have a nice car.

don't ruin it with cheap and failing wheels

i know 1 too many people with this brand
believe me, kills his Z, making ugly even uglier

JRichter 01-23-2008 03:17 PM

I like the design (love mesh style wheels) but I don't know anything about the maker.

Wind Dance 01-23-2008 03:24 PM

For meshes I'd go with Work VS-XX or Volk GT-U
http://www.upgrademotoring.com/wheels/work_vsxx.jpg
http://www.stamfordtyres.com/site-im...olk-GTU-lg.jpg

aliveoutofhabit 01-23-2008 04:25 PM

Sport Max is super heavy. Even those two piece wheels weigh a TON. If you have the car then you can afford the wheels to go with it. Don't cheap out on the wheels.

+1 on Work VS-XX.

Phade2 01-23-2008 07:05 PM

or even go with the 5zigen sports engine wheels if you don't want to shell out $$$. A couple of people have them on here and they look nice.

987HYS 01-23-2008 07:14 PM

BBS for mesh wheels. You cant go wrong there

BBS LM's FTW too...
http://www.foamcow.net/cabby/pics/BB...ace%20Gold.JPG

Well if you want a cheaper alternative with light in mind.. You CAN'T beat Enkie RPF1s

alnielsen 01-23-2008 10:31 PM

May I suggest Enkei RPM02's. The price is right and they are a quality wheel.

Razz1 01-23-2008 10:44 PM

Look nice, but every RX8 I see with wheels similar to that look too busy.

Wheeels like that belong on a luxury car.

swoope 01-23-2008 10:46 PM

dom,

i think it looks just like the adr msport. which for some reason i love..

kersh4w 01-24-2008 12:42 AM

sorry to burst your bubble dom. but bbs' are expensive as all hell. and the LMs are discontinued afaik. if you look on ebay they have bbs lms for sale (not the rx8 bolt pattern though :( ) however, better be prepared to drop at least 3k.

enkei rpf1s are the best bang for the buck rim. they arent as blingin though.
http://www.good-win-racing.com/Mazda...-1051bRX8.html

but enkei has other, slightly heavier, slightly more blingin rims.

you are really set on the bbs lms, do some net searching and keep at it for a while. you may find a set for the 8. but as i said.. bbs' are expensive, so be prepared to lay down the us history of presidents.

I'm very very sorry I got you so excited DOMINION.. BBS Lms are quite a pretty penny minimum of 3k is being safe. According to the poster above me its discontinued and a small search proved he is right.
:uh:

I don't like nor advise replicas, but there are some if you are truly set on the design.

may i give a few suggestions dom?
for mesh wheels...and that of the bbs brand, look into some newer 5series that you can take them off of. its a lot cheaper, and its a brand name at the very least.

or if you're low on cash...who cares, get something sportmax if the price is right. get something with at least a lil peroformance gain in mind. be it lighter or wider...
who cares if its cast. who races around everyday,, right?

that said...i'd go with enkei's based on performance gains, mainly.

MY favorite mesh wheels you ask? SSR ftw. and i love them...always has alwys will. if only they don't cost a arm/leg for some rx8 fitment sizes...

Wind Dance 01-25-2008 06:26 AM

I'm sorry dom,

I feel bad so here is my little list of great looking meshes.

PIAA SUper Mesh 2pc

VividRacing.com has a wide selection of styles and companys to choose from... but i wouldn't order from them though..

GL on finding a design you like and keep us posted.

flip702 01-30-2008 10:56 AM

I like how it looks... i was thinking about that same one in black... you can't please everyone. When it all comes down to it, its your car. I wouldn't feel so bad if these accidentally got some curb rashes... but if I spent $$$$ on the high end wheels i'd prob cry like a baby if i curb'd them... hehehe

Heck, I'd like to consider myself as a "balla on a budget"

Your driving Mazda's flagship car. If you can't afford to do it right, get something cheaper. Now not saying you have to drop $3K on wheels. BUT At the same time think about the great performance wheels that are available for $1k.
Sportmax is just pure garbage made in taiwan.

VRZOOMZOOM 01-30-2008 07:05 PM

If you like mesh wheels, I would strongly recommened ASA AR2. Machined finished with graphite (grey) color inserts. I get compliments with those wheels on my car.

Tirerack carries them btw and ASA if i remember correctly is somehow assoicated with BBS, i think they use their manufacturering process, etc.

Riggs 01-30-2008 07:10 PM

I like the design but what really matters is weight and structual rigidity. Never add rotational mass unless you have to.

DOMINION 01-30-2008 10:39 PM

I love this design but I cant find any that are cheep? as in rims and tires for oh I dont know say $1,300.00 :dunno:

Easy_E1 01-30-2008 10:45 PM

What do you think my wheels are Dom? 006
They weigh 25lbs. a piece. Heavy yes. But it holds it down in the corners. :uhh:
Get what you can afford. I've seen those rims for $161.00 apiece.

Razz1 01-30-2008 10:54 PM

Look for some used ones.

You bring up good points... hence i mentioned "considered". However, if I was from Taiwan, i'd probably take offense in your statement that products from Taiwan are garbage. It may be unfortunate that a lot of things that originate from there lack the standards we expect, but there are companies that actually work to meet industry standards and strive to earn that respect. If they are subject to and meet the quality standards set by the industry, shouldn't they be considered as "acceptable" as the "other" companies? Just because they are relatively less priced than the others, maybe they are able to do that because of the lower cost of producing them? I'm all for quality and such, but I'm not about to spend three times as much just because of a brand name. Another way to look at things (brought up in another thread) -- do you take generic prescription medicine or always get the brand name? If you don't take generic drugs then I apologize, I am not fortunate enough to spend my hard earned money that way.

Sportmax

Our State of the Art Factory

Since 1976, our factory facilities have specialized in the design and manufacture or aluminum alloy wheels for original equipment and after-market automotive applications. Currently we have two factory faculties that produce in excess of 2.4 million wheels each year. Approximately 60 percent of the wheels products are shipped to Japan, 20 percent to the United States, and the remaining 20 percent are distributed throughout the world.

In our production, quality is the main objective. For quality assurance, all our wheels are certified by the international standard on accreditation of ISO 9002 and QS 9000. The factory also obtained the qualification of Japanese VIA Standard on quality testing which guarantees that every wheel meets their vigorous testing standards. When you purchase our wheels, rest assured that you will be getting one of the best on the market.

Endless Rotaries 01-31-2008 01:52 AM

The Sportmax wheels will be heavy but they are an amazing alternative. The 006 wheel is really beautiful in person. I can't believe it's so cheap.

I can do sets of those for under $700 a set shipped IT CRAZY CHEAP. I was even thinking of rocking some 502's for beater wheels.

What kind of deals you got Gil? FYI You'll have to roll your rear fenders.

A good quality wheel doesn't crack idiot. Search and learn before you make a fool of yourself.

Mikeluvs8 02-04-2008 01:56 AM

why you getting mad!!!! hey read my post it could of been a hoax by the so called real wheels companies, i wont believe it till i see it.... so you going to hit that wall????????...................................... ...............i'd like to see this!!!!! post pics dude i wanna see how the volks look after your crash test!!!!! dont get all but hurt dude its only the internet. FOOL!!!!

Wind Dance 02-04-2008 01:56 AM

As stated beforehand. Good quality wheels don't crack. Engineers call this behavior ductility, and it's what prevents catastrophic failures. The metal bends, deforms, heats up, etc and that all dissipates energy without failing.

For all you idiots out there trying to justify fake wheels and talk about performance or show.

1. You get what you pay for, and if you're looking for performance, go ahead, go out and buy a set of rotas. If they last you more than a track day, you're either driving like a bitch, or the Filipino's have blessed your car. You pay premium price for premium wheels because they have a better inspection process, build process, and are of course of higher quality. In the end that means not cracking or bending a wheel, having the right offsets, and having on occasion a light wheel due to the fact that it's most likely forged.

2. Have you actually compared your set of rotas to an actual set of Volk wheels? Weighed it, seen the build process on the two wheels, quality tested the wheels for durability, etc..? Rota has. And guess what, that rich Filipino dude who owns the company is laughing at your dumbass. The only good thing I can say about knock off wheels is that when they break, they're so cheap that you can go out and buy another set, which is probably how your dumbass justifies rocking them.

Don't blatantly lie to my face like that. It makes me angry when you say stupid stuff like that because you're too cheap to justify spending money on a set of real quality wheels. Don't complain about not being able to afford it, because if you wanted performance badly enough, you'd save up enough money and eat ramen everyday telling yourself it's worth it just to save those few pounds, or to get the right size wheel to change the track width of your car just to make it handle that much better. Quit lying to yourself if you're really pushing for performance because you sir are a sorry excuse for an enthusiast.

NOTICE: This has nothing to do with Dominion's post, your choice of wheels are always YOUR CHOICE.

Mikeluvs8 02-04-2008 01:57 AM
