I bought some 17" rims today for my winter tires.

The guy gave me his hub centric rings for Toyota and told me it will fit many other brands but could not tell me if they would fit my rx-8.

ALSO!

What size lug nuts do I need? He gave me tuner lug nuts for 12x1.5 thread. Will they work?

Iirc, most Toyota hub rings are 60.1mm.

The 8's use 67.1mm so the Toyota rings probably won't fit.

The rims are from a Toyota MR2.

 

Hubcenter Bore should be = 67.1
Bolt Pattern is = 5x114.3

Since they're aftermarket wheels, you should be fine as long as you get the proper Mazda hubcentric rings. Aftermarket wheels have larger hub bores so you can add the rings for the right fit.

If they were OEM Toyota wheels, you'd need to get the hubs machined out to 67.1mm.

Never use a plastic hub ring. They melt from brake heat. They also tend to be cheaply made POSs. I have had them cause a shop to rebalance a wheel set three times without eliminating a shake. Aluminum rings were a clean kill on the problem, because they were made better.

 

I prefer the metal ones myself, but all the plastic ones I've used were heat resistant

 

just center it on your own and torque it down. you dont really need those hubcentric rings. i have 17s with a 70.1 hub over the rx-8 67.1 and its is not an issue even without hubcentric rings.

 

Wow. I have better things to do than debate this, but I have to disagree. It falls under the "I've been doing it that way for ten years" argument.

I looked for my melty plastic hub ring last night to post a picture, but I guess I got tired of having it live in the top of my toolbox, so no pic.

With what statement? Using plastic hub rings or the comment re; not using hub rings at all.
