Hmmm, not bad. What do they weigh, and how much do they cost?

Best deal on SF Challenge I've found was...

$525 each, $3100 Price Package with S03/Pzero/etc Tires. 19" Silver, Black, etc etc..
$485 each, $2800 Price Package with S03/Pzero/etc Tires. 18" Silver, Black, etc etc..

Big price difference for Alt Wheels clone and Volks wheels... ack!

Most definitely a one piece for that price, and as far as clones go those don't look half bad. BUT I would want to see one in person before purchasing anything like that. Sometimes the pictures do the clone wheels ALOT of justice.

Are there such things as wheel design patents?

I don't believe so. So many clones of the GT-P Volks out there.

I found the wheels on some random website... just search for Alt Wheels 298.

I saw these in person and they looked very close to Volks... I wouldn't have been able to tell if not for the names etched into the rims.

I thought so. It would be pretty silly to patent a 5-spoke design, or even a mesh design. Heck, didn't Rays get their idea for the SE37-K from the infamous BBS mesh wheel? Same thing with CCW and Fikse.

Sorry to hijack :o. Back to the thread!

Ya so many clones... but it's always been like that. Kind of like having a knock off Louis Vuitton bag and a generic... the general public wouldn't know the difference, but a REAL afficianado would.

I just can't see myself spending 2100+ 1000 for tires on rims at this point for SF Challegenges. For 1200 +600 for some knockoffs... now that is tempting.

Speaking of off topic, I saw a knockoff MS Style kit for sale for 150. I mean come on, for 150 + 600 paint... that's ridiculous... might as well take your chances with the fake :P 750 for MS look... hehehe. And yes it was Fiberglass, and this was the AAS style too. Guess they are just going to flood the market with them.

Just curious -- where did you find this deal? I'm looking at the SF Challenges as well. And does that price include the Mercury Silver or just the regular silver?

Thanks.

It was a price I was quoted for Silver... I thought regular silver IS mercury silver... because that was the only silver that was available... there is a Black version, Bronze version, Total shiny chrome version.

Go to www.importhookups.com under the thread Volks. It's about 3100+ with tires for SF Challenges 19". 18" would be cheaper of course.

yeah, I believe the "total shiny chrome" version -- the one in the picture -- is the mercury silver. There is also a straight silver which is also pretty sharp looking -- I saw it on a Z last weekend at HIN Chicago. I also saw it in gunmetal on a Skyline, and of course the black one on this board.

Thanks for the link.

mikeb: Probably, but the SSRs weigh in at 20.5lbs for the 19x8.5 and 21.5lbs for the 19x9.5 and its they are pretty cool... They are three piece and you can specify the offset and lip depth... I ordered the black...
