tire sizing

Im thinking about going with a staggered setup on some azeni rt-615's.
But don't know that much about tire sizing. What would be the best
performance oriented setup. Ive seen so many different tire sizes,
but am no sure which ones will work. Should I go down to 17"? I was
also going to swap out my rims for the Axis Reverbs, or Hiros,
probably the reverbs cuz theres more sizes available. The setup I was
looking at was 275/35R18 95W, in the rears, and maybe the original
225/45R18 in the fronts. Would this make sense? Any help would be
appreciated.

You will get massive understeer with that setup. With a staggered setup the closer together the tire sizes the better. Most would go with a 245/40/18 in the front (on an 8" or 8.5" front rim) & a 265/275/ 35/18 in the rear (on an 9.5" rim). Honestly, unless you are planning to go FI or nitrous there is no reason to get a larger rear tire. If it is a "regular" RX8 245/40/18's all the way around is your best bet.

Agree agree and agree.

This is a much of the norm ...

I really think my 245 R compound is too big for my stock 8". Well, if I have extra cash I will go for a 8.5" light rim to spread out the tyre. 8" is much suitted for the 235s :o
