tire size on 20's

My brother is putting some 20's on his 04 Rx8 and I am wondering what is the widest tire you can put on the front and the back of these cars without any problems? And what are the width of the wheels? Thanks.

20" wheels will fit, but they are a dumb idea for many reasons.
Your tire choices are:
225/40 & 245/35.
Be absolutely certain this is what your brother wants to do - it is going to eliminate some of the better handling and comfort of the car.
Make sure the offset is correct as well.

what width/offset are the wheels. these are the main things you need to know before determing the size of the tyres.
i have 245/35 all round

^ has 20's

i don't know if you can run a wider rear tire without making the car alot taller than stock. 245/35/20 will make the car about a 1/4" taller than stock due to the tire's OD being about 1/2" taller. If he also wants to lower the car slightly then I think it would look good but I'm still not sure.

275/30 would pretty much be the thinest and widest rear tire we could really use if you want that staggered setup.

If they made a 275/25/20 tire then it would work great with a 235/30/20 front tire but again i dont think 275/25/20 exists yet

the tire dia of the stock tire is 25.9"

and this will help with the rest...

http://www.1010tires.com/WheelOffsetCalculator.asp

figure out the rim size and offset that you are wanting. then get a tire that is close to 25.9"

20s wont fit?? Hmm could have sworn i had the 20s off my Hilux on my rx8, or was i dreaming?
Truth is they do fit, and they didnt scrub once, i filled the car up with people, swerved up an down the road trying to get it to scrub..
Note my car has also been lowered...

The rear tyres were 265/35/20
fronts 245/35/20

You need to run a bodykit with 20s though, else it will look a lil higher off the ground..

20's will fit. I have a set of volks on my car right now. I'm running 245/35/20 in the front and 275/30/20 in the rear. Just get the right offsets and you will be fine. I have really high offsets so i didnt have to worry about rolling my fenders.
