Tire Pressure Warning

Has anyone else had any problems with the tire pressure warning light and chime sounding on cold days, then going off as tire pressure increases?

I had this problem too. I checked my tire pressure and it was a bit low so I added air pressure and it went away. I also got the "M" flash since then too. I haven't seen the warning light since.

Constantly. Mine typically disappears after driving around a bit, though. I guess the tires heat up after a while and regain their pressure. Also, the manual mentions snow/ice accumulation on the sensors can cause false readings as well.

Same thing happens to me. It usually goes away after the car warms up. If I get it for a couple days then I check and add air if needed.

always check your tire pressure COLD! COLD = in the morning before driving. then add(or subtract) the appropriate amount of air to bring them to spec from the reading you took COLD! It is not a problem that your TPMS is chiming when you start out driving -ITS SUPPOSED TO because YOUR TIRES ARE NOT AT THE PROPER PRESSURE. If the TPMS chimes in the morning you are not driving with the PROPER TIRE PRESSURE. That it goes out after driving is an indication that they are working properly and that your tires NEED MORE AIR! one person mentioned a flash- flashes have nothing to do with the working of the TPMS.

Seems like one of those inventions that could use more time on the drawing board.

I got so sick and tired of dealing with the TPS-- I disconnected-per instrutions guide- given on this forum- I enjoy this car, and have virtually no problems, (22K)-- (other then someone stealing my passenger side airbag at anm LAX airport!), not the cars fault-- but this TPS thing- did not function right from day one-- three dealer attempts latter- it's now history.

Thats because when it is cold air molecules compress making the sensor think there is low pressure. When you drive the tires heat them back up causing them to expand making your sensor think there is enough pressure. Look at your tires when it's really cold and they will look almost flat. You should really check your pressure when your tires are at operating temp. not hot, not cold.

[QUOTE=leigh44...... You should really check your pressure when your tires are at operating temp. not hot, not cold.[/QUOTE]

Absolutely wrong! When they're at operating temperature, they are hot .

From: http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tirete...l/pressure.jsp

"The tire pressure recommended in your vehicle's owner's manual or tire information placard is the vehicle's recommended "cold" tire inflation pressure. This means that it should be checked in the morning before you drive more than a few miles, or before rising ambient temperatures or the sun's radiant heat affects it."

Inflate your stock summer tires to 32 PSI cold. If you have snow tires, they get 36 PSI cold.

Use a quality tire pressure guage such as one of these: http://www.tirerack.com/accessories/...gauges_all.jsp

A point not touched on here:

Tires inflated with air lose about a pound of pressure every 10 degrees of temperature drop. If the last time you checked your tires was in August, and it's 10 degrees out there now, your tires are likely to be close to 10 lbs down on pressure.

Additionally, most tires will lose 1-2 lbs a month through just normal porosity of the rubber.

There's a reason your TPMS is doing that.

IT's working.

Check your pressure cold. Check it at least monthly, and always check it when the season changes.

Any other questions?

No?

Good.

Mine went on the first few days it dropped below freezing in the Northeast (this was expected), I added air to bring the pressure up to 32 lbs. and it's been fine since.

Sorry didn't mean to word it that way. I do understand that the flash has nothing to do with the tire pressure.

Just this past Sunday I experienced the same thing. Had to park my 8 outside over night - lows in the mid 20's. When I started the car the next morning about 11:30 - the light stayed on; no bells or flashing...just stayed on. No more than 10 minutes later, light off. Hasn't come back on. I checked the tires the next morning - all O.K.

Everyone with snow tires has them set to 36 PSI, right?

What's this bell I keep hearing people mention, I have seen the light, but never heard a bell. I also never saw the light flashing, just on steady. Granted I only had the light come on once, but I definately do not remember flashing & a bell.
