Mine are 245/40/18 Nitto Invo on 9.5 +38.

pdxhak 02-25-2010 11:49 AM

Remember the issue is not at full lock. The raised part of the line is like a 1/4 turn.

J8635621 02-25-2010 11:54 AM

True. I'll get another picture after lunch.

Shijin-Kun 02-25-2010 12:07 PM

after doing a little more research and like stated above 245/40 will most likely still rub, my only other options are 255/35 (maybe wont rub), nitto doesnt make 245/35 so cant do that, or 235/40 which will probably be my best bet.

Shijin-Kun 02-26-2010 09:01 AM

so i went to discount tire and ordered my 2 new invos 235/40/18. I had them price match the site i was going to buy them from. Each tire is 123 which is pretty good deal in my opinion. Not sure how long it will take to get here but i will let yall know when they get installed.

This problem has plagued aggressively lowered rx8's from day one. Solutions vary, depending on how low you are, changing tire OD is one solution :icon_tup:

dannobre 03-02-2010 05:35 PM

Or buying the correct offset and tire size....;)

Blasphemy! :mdrmed:

pdxhak 03-02-2010 07:54 PM

You would think 8.5" +40 wheel would be OK which is what I'm running and not considered aggressive but yet I have the issue as well.

TeamRX8 03-02-2010 08:03 PM

You may think being that low looks cool, but you made your car handle worse

Shijin-Kun 03-04-2010 09:19 PM

ok i got the 235/40/18 on and my problem is fixed. here are some pics

Hi. The "issue as well" is with what tire size?

In another thread someone recomended this other tire/size calculator you could use: http://www.1010tires.com/TireSizeCal...?action=submit

Thinking of going with 245/40/18 with 8.5 or 9" width and a 40 offset. I will use stock suspension with only RB sway bars.

Thanks

I heard the lower your car is, the better it handles and the higher it is, the worse it handles. You're telling me this isn't true??? :shocking:

dannobre 05-14-2010 07:54 AM

Oh G*D ;)

Seem to remember you started all this ;)

The lower your car is the better it handles in turns. The higher the better for straight line performace.

That's why the Citroen C5 had auto-adjusting ride height (based on velocity).

Mine are Direzza Sport Z1 Star Spec. They stuck on it.

The issue is the tire OD relative to the width and ride height. The wider the tire and/or lower the ride height the smaller the tire OD needs to be to avoid clearance issues.

You can try to use a heat gun and some pressure to flatten that area of the wheel liner out for more clearance.

Lowering the ride height too much is counterproductive to good handling.

.

MazdaManiac 05-16-2010 03:52 PM

lol @ 30mm offset.

You guys crack me up. What did you think would happen when you moved the effective sweep of the edge of the tire out 12mm?

But I swear, the lower the car the better it handles, thats why all those cars that are nearly sitting on the ground handle the best! Oh, the farther the wheels stick out, the better it will handle too!!!

lol.

You also want to try to get the camber as close to parallel to the ground as possible.

Yeah but you forgot the 100hp that a Hellaflush look adds! who needs handling with that power adder? :)

You fool, it doesn't add horsepower. Hellaflush is ALL about handling.

Meaning that with a hellaflush setup your passengers must be masters of the ancient art of the oh shit handle in order to survive?

chimming in. After removing my front bumper i noticed the front impact brace had welds on it. So that means my car was in an accident that was not reported to the insurance company. That would give a reason why the driver side is the only one that rubs. So now im running 235/40/18s

Huey52 05-17-2010 10:26 AM

^ was the foam padding also compressed? If so be sure to get it replaced.
