Im not sure what the difference is. My understanding w/ Tein Flex is that you can adjust the ride height by a press of a button and someone said that you can ONLY adjust the damping force from the inside but as far as the ride height you have to ad just it manually. What is the difference between tein flex and tein basic damper?? I was more interested in something that I can adjust the ride height by a press of a button.

 

basic dampering is a basic coilover set which u can manually change the height using those claw things.

Flex you can not change the height of your car with a touch of a button. The button (EDFC) changes the dampering (comfort/stiffness) of the car ride. YOu have to manually change the ride height like basic.

if i have flex, i would set it real comfortable for daily driving, and if your autocrossing or tracking, you would want something stiffer. Depends on your own feel and taste. I was going to go flex, but i choose to get MS springs and shocks for a real good price, only reason why i went MS.

My friend changed his at my house, i believe it was his 2nd time changing his height for the chicago winter. You have to remove the wheels and use those claws to twist it higher or lower to adjust the height. Only really requires to remove the wheels, should be easy if u have power tools or air compressed tools. We usually do it by hand, because we're idiots and our friends that has the tools is usually busy. Also, u have to measure the distances to try to get an even height. Took him about 3 hours, with breaks. Hope this helps

 

also, if u wanna change ur dampering the easier way, u need the buy the EDFC system, or u would have to twist/set it on the coilovers, which again, u have to take stuff apart. good luck!

 

Basically, the basic damper isn't compatible with the EDFC. And you should be able to adjust ride height without having to pull off the wheels.

 

Also, I don't think the damping is adjustable on the basic, only on the flex. I've heard that the ride quality with the basic (at least on the 350Z) is awful compared to the flex. I have the flex on mine, and the ride quality is pretty good.

 

yea i was meaning towards the flex that uses EDFC and the basic u cant change damping.

I agree, basic is pretty ruthless as i heard, esp a 240sx. Very stiff and rough, not the best for a daily driver. Go for the flex and a EDFC if u change ur dampering a lot. You could adjust the height without removing the wheel, but it prob be harder.

 

i will let everyone know how the car rides when i change my tein stech springs for the tein basic coilovers

 

have you switched to the Basics yet?

 

Z owners say the Basic is much harsher than the Flex as well.

there can be no comparison
the 350z is horrible from the factory as in comfort..but i have heard from tein that it maybe a bit rougher ride than my tein stech springs.

as of now i havent purchased the tein coils, im in the process of buying a kit
so most of the money is going there.
as for the tein stech i cant complain ride is near perfect, excellent response
ride comfort is great.

Correct. But you have to realign the wheel when you change the ride height.

It sucks. Otherwise I will have a Tein Flex in normal height for daily use and lower on track days. Too much hassle to realignment (cost money) everytime I change 20mm from the Flex.

So one it is set it is set IMHO.

-20mm is the best ride height: said by Japan's Fujita racing and also what the Autoexe boss says.

As you can tell with some of the pictures, the height adjustment is the two green rings which the springs are resting on.

PS - If you want push button height adjustment, you'd have to get full airbags or coilover airbags.

I just order a set of tein flex, mainly for track use. what do u guys think about the handling on the flex compaired to the stock suspension. Is it a noticable difference? I don't really care about height, more conserned with improved handling. thanks

 

If u have tein flex, u can buy add on EDFC controller that will allow u to adjust the damper with a button in a car. not the height though. the way it works is there is a mini air compressor for every coilover, when u push the button it pumps air into the coilovers to adjust the damper. for more info go to tein's website. http://www.tein.com/edfc.html the extra add on is about 380 bucks, u may get a better deal if u shop around. i just ordered some tein flex's, i'm gonna have to save up for a bit to get the EDFC controller but i think it'll be worth it.

 

But if you get the flex and put them on without having the edfc can you still adjust dampening manually?

 

Look at the date of the last post. Yes, you can adjust them manually.
