Tein CS Coilovers
Well I was playing around on the Tein Site, went to the shop, clicked on special offer and saw these coilovers are available from 850 now!!! Anyone know why they are being discounted, or have them installed? This seems to be a great deal, especially since they are also compatible with the EDFC.

I couldn't tell you why they are being discounted. My theory is that they have something new coming out that is going to replace them. On the application chart is says there are CS coilovers and CST coilovers. I haven't heard anything else about the CST, but they look to be something that could replace the CS.
For history, I had Tein S-tech Springs, but the drop wasn't enough for me. I liked the ride, and how they got rid of the blaring front gap but it still wasn't enough. So I upgraded the springs to Megan Racings Coilovers. These were great for the money, and they handle amazing. I had finally gotten the ride height I wanted. But, they were very stiff, and my car is a daily driver. It was pretty obvious that they would be that way, they have the some of the stiffest spring rates for any RX8 coilover I know of. I lived with them for a while, but since moving back to CT, the roads were just too much for me.
I was browsing the Tein Website and came across the CS. Spring rates were about twice what the stock is, they were monotube, EDFC compatible, and ride height adjustable. I tried looking for reviews on them and all I could find were reviews of them installed in IS250s and other higher end cars. So I took the chance.
I bought them back in october and installed them as soon as I got them. Set the ride height to 26 inches all around and went for a drive so I could find out what dampening I wanted them at. My first impressions, were that they were very soft compared to the Megans. They were also a little bouncy. So I set the dampening up a bit higher to get rid of the bouncyness and started to dial them in to what I like. I love them now. They are great for a DD and just overall more comfortable than I could have hoped for. I now have the comfortable ride I used to have and the ride height that I wanted. They ride better than my brothers stock 06 Civic Si. I'll probably get the EDFC sometime in the spring. I just don't have the money for it right now.
I would reccomend these to anyone who is also looking for something comfortable for a daily driver, and yet can be set up to be stiff as well. The only thing I wish they had was ride height adjustability seperate from the spring perch. But I suspect that most people, as well as my self, buy coilovers and set them to a specific height and never touch the height again. So its not that big of a deal to me..

thanks a lot for the review mate, sounds exactly like what I'm looking for since I'm finding the basics I have to be a bit stiff and jarring at times.
Now to find an autorized dealer to "steal" these from... price is too good.

I know, the deal they have was just too good to pass up. I didn't know how long they were going to be at that price, so I mulled it over for a day and went for it. I just bought them straight from Tein USA and they were very helpful. I even got a phone call to confirm the order, as well as an e-mail with the tracking info.
Just make sure that if you want the warranty, you have to prove you had them installed by an authorized dealer. I didn't really care though, so I did it myself.

Simple to install?
I would say on a scale of 1-10, 10 being the hardest coilovers are only like a 4. They are very easy to install. It is just a bunch of bolts, nothing really crazy. It took me about 4 hours to switch out my suspension. Including all my cigarette breaks. There are some good DIY articles about installing shocks/springs on here. Just follow those, except with coilovers you just remove the stock assemblies and replace with the new ones.
Do you need an alignment?
I would highly recommend one. Any time that you alter the suspension, it is a good idea to get one. You don't have to but, it doesn't cost much and can help out tire life and make sure that your car handles like it should. It should only take about an hour for a good shop to do it. The only problem I've had is actually finding a shop that is able to do it, since the car is much lower now.

If you want to get your money's worth for your coilovers...get an alignment...

Some shops do an alignment to "good enough"...soulspeed did it until the numbers matched my request to the tenth...$25 increase getting it done there...but well worth the cash for the service (appointment) and doing as I asked...

would anyone know how these would compare to the tein flex. I know they are not as "competition" as the tein flex but was still currious because of the special deal they have on them. would these also help with the wheel hop issue?...

i don't get much wheel hop, at least compared to stock. I don't really know what causes wheel hop in our cars, but the coilovers helped. I think it has to do with the better dampening, and thus, better control of the springs. I could be wrong, all I know is that it seemed to lessen the wheel hop, but it didn't totally get rid of it.

I see you posted on the 9th. I don't see these available on the special offers page anymore? Does this change that rapidly or do I need to look somewhere else?

Wrong, You can adjust the ride height via the spring perch. You can adjust dampening with 16 levels (Comp/Rebound together). They are also EDFC compatible which means you can adjust the dampening inside your car. They are monotube, which is better for finer adjustments in dampening. Like Phish said they were 850 because they were on clearance before they start selling the CST.
I think you are confusing these with the Tein Basics, which only allow height adjustment via the spring perch and thats it, they have a set dampening level, and they reuse the stock upper mounts.
Maybe you should read before judging something you know nothing about.
Oh, this deal has been going on for a little while so they are probably now sold out. If you still want them, I would suggest looking for another online dealer who might have a set in stock. Other than that, you might be able to get them used.

I don't have any pics yet, I'll see if I can take some tomorrow though.
I set it to 26 inches all around. The max drop is 2.3 front and 1.1 rear. I have it a little higher than that. I don't know what the Flex drops are, but they are definitely lower, probably at least .5 inches more drop.

Heres a pic for you RA-Eight. I tried taking a picture of the coilovers threads but couldn't without taking off the wheels. There is room for the rears to go down about a 1/2 inch more, and the fronts could probably go down another 3/4 of an inch from this.
